Dubai Gold Prices Rise as Lower Oil Costs and a Softer Dollar Support Bullion
Gold prices in Dubai moved higher on Tuesday morning after giving up some of their gains during Monday evening’s trading session. The latest increase comes as falling oil prices and a relatively weaker US dollar provide support to precious metals, while investors await fresh US inflation figures for clues about the Federal Reserve’s future interest-rate decisions.
According to Dubai Jewellery Group data, 24-karat gold was priced at Dh505.75 per gram, while 22K gold traded at Dh468.25 and 21K gold stood at Dh449 per gram.
Internationally, spot gold climbed 0.8 per cent to $4,199 an ounce. The movement came as oil prices declined and financial markets turned their attention towards upcoming US inflation data, which could influence expectations for monetary policy.
Lower Oil Prices Provide Support for Gold
Naeem Aslam, Chief Investment Officer at Zaye Capital Markets, said the recovery in gold prices reflects improving conditions for the precious metals market.
According to Aslam, declining energy costs and a comparatively subdued US dollar have helped ease some of the pressure on bullion. These factors are important because movements in energy prices can influence inflation expectations and the outlook for interest rates.
He noted that US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a proposed energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, together with an agreement to increase Russian diesel supplies, had contributed to the recent decline in oil prices.
Lower energy costs could help reduce inflationary pressures and ease expectations that central banks will need to maintain restrictive monetary policies for an extended period. Such conditions may support gold, which does not generate interest income.
However, Aslam cautioned that a sustained recovery in bullion prices would also depend on movements in US Treasury yields and the dollar. If both continue to ease, gold could receive additional support from investors seeking exposure to precious metals.
US Inflation Figures in Focus
Investors are closely watching the upcoming US inflation report for indications of how the Federal Reserve might approach interest rates in the coming months.
Inflation data can influence expectations about the pace and timing of monetary policy adjustments. If price pressures ease, markets may anticipate a less restrictive policy outlook, potentially benefiting gold. Stronger-than-expected inflation, however, could reinforce expectations of higher interest rates for longer and place pressure on the metal.
Gold is often viewed as a store of value during periods of economic uncertainty. However, because it does not pay interest, its appeal can be affected by changes in bond yields and the strength of the US dollar.
For buyers in Dubai, international market movements, currency conditions and local retail pricing all contribute to daily changes in gold rates.
Geopolitical Developments Continue to Influence Demand
Uncertainty surrounding geopolitical developments remains another factor affecting gold prices. Aslam said the metal continues to attract interest as a potential safe-haven asset when investors become concerned about global stability.
Although the proposed energy ceasefire announced by Trump could ease some concerns, continuing attacks on energy infrastructure have raised questions about whether the arrangement can be fully implemented.
According to Aslam, the possibility of further disruptions to global energy supplies remains an important risk for financial markets.
Any renewed threat to energy shipments or deterioration in diplomatic negotiations could increase demand for defensive assets such as gold. Conversely, a credible reduction in geopolitical tensions could temporarily reduce safe-haven buying as investors become more willing to move towards equities and other risk-sensitive investments.
The Outlook Depends on Oil, the Dollar and Global Risks
Aslam said the key question for gold is whether falling oil prices will ease inflation expectations enough to offset any decline in demand for safe-haven assets.
If energy prices remain lower and the US dollar and Treasury yields continue to weaken, the environment could become more supportive for bullion. However, stronger inflation data or a renewed rise in yields could limit further gains.
Developments in Russia-Ukraine diplomacy and the wider geopolitical environment will also remain important for the direction of energy markets and investor sentiment.
For now, Dubai gold prices are reflecting a combination of international bullion movements, changing energy costs and expectations surrounding US monetary policy. Investors and jewellery buyers will be watching the latest inflation figures and broader market developments for further indications of where gold prices may head next.
