Dubai’s New Etihad Rail Station Opens to Passengers

Dubai has added a new option for intercity travel with the opening of the first Etihad Rail passenger station in the emirate.

The Al Yalayis station, situated in Jumeirah Golf Estates, begins passenger operations on September 30. The first scheduled service is set to depart at 6.14am on Wednesday, giving commuters and travellers another way to move between Dubai and other emirates.

The station provides passenger connections to Abu Dhabi and Fujairah while also offering convenient access to Dubai’s public transport network.

One of its most notable features is its proximity to the Dubai Metro, allowing passengers to transfer from the Etihad Rail network to the Red Line without having to arrange separate road transport.

Five-minute walk to Dubai Metro

Passengers arriving at Al Yalayis can reach Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station via a dedicated pedestrian bridge positioned close to the railway station entrance.

A sign displayed inside the station indicates that the walk takes approximately five minutes.

The pedestrian connection stretches for roughly 400 metres and has been designed to provide a direct route between the two transport systems.

This means passengers can move from the Etihad Rail terminal to the Dubai Metro without needing to take a taxi or cross busy roads.

Once they reach the Red Line, travellers can continue towards a wide range of destinations throughout Dubai.

The connection could be particularly useful for passengers whose final destination is not close to the railway station itself, allowing them to combine intercity rail travel with the city’s existing metro network.

How far is Al Yalayis from major Dubai destinations?

For passengers who plan to continue their journey by car or taxi, the station is within driving distance of several major destinations and communities.

Approximate travel times from Al Yalayis include:

  • Expo City — around 10 minutes

  • Jumeirah Village Circle — around 17 minutes

  • Dubai Hills — around 18 minutes

  • Palm Jumeirah — around 22 minutes

  • Mall of the Emirates — around 25 minutes

  • Al Maktoum International Airport — around 27 minutes

  • Dubai Mall — around 29 minutes

  • Dubai International Airport — around 40 minutes

Actual journey times can vary depending on traffic, road conditions and the time of day, so passengers may need to allow additional time when planning onward travel.

Location gives access to major communities

The Al Yalayis station is positioned close to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, also known as E311.

Its location places the railway terminal within relatively easy reach of several residential and business districts, including Al Furjan, Dubai Investment Park and Dubai South.

For people living or working in these areas, the new station could provide an alternative to travelling by road for longer inter-emirate journeys.

The station’s location also makes it possible for passengers to combine rail travel with Dubai’s existing public transport services.

Getting to the station by public transport

Passengers who do not want to drive to Al Yalayis have several options for reaching the station.

The RTA’s F38 bus service connects Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station with Dubai Production City and Dubai Sports City.

The circular route has 24 stops and operates throughout the day.

This creates another connection between the metro network, nearby communities and the wider transport system around the new railway station.

Passengers can therefore use a combination of bus, metro and rail services depending on their starting point and final destination.

Taxis and ride-hailing services

Taxis are also available for passengers travelling to or from Al Yalayis.

Dubai Taxi Company has partnered with Etihad Rail to provide transport services for passengers using the station.

Travellers can also arrange rides through the Bolt app, giving them another option for completing the first or final part of their journey.

Taxis may be particularly useful for passengers carrying luggage or travelling to destinations that are not directly connected to the metro or bus network.

Car rental available at the station

For passengers who want greater flexibility after arriving in Dubai, car rental services are available at the station.

Thrifty operates a rental service at Al Yalayis, allowing travellers to arrange a vehicle for onward journeys.

Customers can make a reservation before arriving, arrange a rental at the station or use the walk-in option, depending on availability.

The service gives visitors another alternative to taxis and public transport, particularly for people planning to travel to multiple destinations across Dubai or the wider UAE.

More than just a railway stop

Al Yalayis has been designed as a wider transportation hub rather than simply a place where passengers board or leave a train.

The station features ticket counters and electronic information displays intended to help passengers navigate their journeys.

A large seating area provides space for travellers waiting for their services.

The terminal also includes retail facilities, adding convenience for passengers who need refreshments or other essentials while travelling.

Among the brands operating at the station are WHSmith and Starbucks, while additional outlets are expected to become available in the future.

Passenger facilities inside the terminal

Clear signage has been installed throughout the station to help travellers find their way between the different areas of the terminal.

There are two platform waiting areas, providing passengers with designated spaces to wait before boarding their trains.

Electronic information screens are also available to provide journey-related information.

The combination of signage, digital displays and dedicated waiting areas is intended to make the station easier to navigate, particularly for passengers using the railway for the first time.

A new option for inter-emirate travel

The opening of Al Yalayis marks a new stage in Dubai’s passenger rail connectivity.

Travellers can now begin their journey in Dubai and use Etihad Rail services to reach destinations including Abu Dhabi and Fujairah.

The direct connection with the Dubai Metro adds another layer of convenience because passengers can continue their journeys through the city without necessarily relying on private vehicles.

For commuters and visitors, the ability to combine intercity rail with the metro, buses, taxis and rental cars could make planning journeys more flexible.

Metro connection could be a key advantage

One of the station’s most practical features is the short pedestrian connection to Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station.

Rather than requiring passengers to leave the railway terminal and find another form of transport, the dedicated footbridge provides a direct walking route to the Red Line.

At approximately 400 metres, the bridge provides a dedicated connection between the two stations.

The stated walking time is about five minutes.

This could be especially useful for passengers who want to avoid arranging a separate taxi after arriving at Al Yalayis.

Once passengers reach the metro, they can use the Red Line to continue towards other parts of Dubai.

Convenient road access

For passengers travelling by private vehicle, the station’s location near E311 provides access to Dubai’s wider road network.

The road connection makes it possible to reach communities surrounding Jumeirah Golf Estates as well as destinations farther across the emirate.

Nearby areas include Al Furjan, Dubai Investment Park and Dubai South.

The station’s position also places it within driving distance of both major commercial areas and residential communities.

However, travel times should be treated as approximate because congestion can significantly affect road journeys in Dubai.

Connections to airports

Al Yalayis is also within driving distance of both of Dubai’s major airports.

Al Maktoum International Airport is estimated to be about 27 minutes away by car, while Dubai International Airport is approximately 40 minutes away.

The difference reflects the station’s location in the southern part of Dubai.

For international visitors arriving through Dubai or passengers travelling onward to another destination, the combination of rail and road connections could offer another way to plan their journeys.

Access to major attractions

Several well-known Dubai destinations can also be reached from Al Yalayis by car.

Expo City is among the closest major destinations, with an estimated driving time of about 10 minutes.

Jumeirah Village Circle is around 17 minutes away, while Dubai Hills can take approximately 18 minutes.

Palm Jumeirah is around 22 minutes away, followed by Mall of the Emirates at roughly 25 minutes.

Dubai Mall is approximately 29 minutes away by car.

These journey estimates provide an indication of the station’s location, although actual travel times can change depending on traffic and other road conditions.

A multimodal transport hub

The combination of railway, metro, bus, taxi and car rental services means Al Yalayis has been designed around multiple modes of transportation.

A passenger could, for example, reach the station by metro, board an Etihad Rail train to another emirate and then continue the journey using local transport.

Alternatively, travellers can arrive by taxi, use a rental car or drive to the station before continuing their journey by rail.

The different options allow passengers to choose their preferred method based on convenience, destination and travel requirements.

What passengers can expect

People using the station can expect facilities designed around the needs of both daily travellers and visitors.

Ticketing facilities are available inside the terminal, while digital displays provide information for passengers.

The seating areas give travellers space to wait before departure, and clear signs help direct people towards platforms and other sections of the station.

Retail outlets add another layer of convenience, with WHSmith and Starbucks already available.

More businesses are expected to join the station’s retail offering as operations expand.

A new link between Dubai and other emirates

The opening of Al Yalayis gives Dubai residents another option for travelling beyond the emirate.

The station’s passenger services connect Dubai with Abu Dhabi and Fujairah, expanding the practical reach of the UAE’s national railway network.

The integration with Dubai Metro is particularly significant because it connects intercity rail services with the emirate’s established urban transport system.

Instead of treating the railway station as an isolated terminal, passengers can use it as part of a broader journey involving trains, metro services, buses, taxis or rental vehicles.

What makes Al Yalayis different

The station’s combination of location and transport connections is one of its defining features.

Its position in Jumeirah Golf Estates provides access to nearby residential and commercial districts, while its connection to the Red Line offers passengers a route into the wider Dubai Metro system.

The station is also close to E311, providing road access for taxis and private vehicles.

With bus services, ride-hailing options and car rentals also available, passengers have several ways to complete the final part of their journey.

Planning your journey

Travellers using Al Yalayis for the first time may want to consider their complete journey rather than focusing only on the train departure.

Those travelling by metro can use the pedestrian bridge between Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station and the railway terminal.

Passengers arriving by car can use the station’s parking facilities, while taxi and ride-hailing services provide alternatives for those who do not want to drive.

People planning longer stays can also consider the car rental service available at the station.

Checking traffic conditions and allowing extra time for transfers is advisable, particularly during busy periods.

A new chapter for rail travel in Dubai

The opening of Al Yalayis represents an expansion of passenger rail services in Dubai and gives residents and visitors another way to travel between the emirates.

With direct services to Abu Dhabi and Fujairah, a nearby Dubai Metro connection and access to road-based transport, the station has been planned as part of a larger integrated network.

Its facilities extend beyond the platforms, with seating areas, digital information screens, ticket counters and retail outlets available to passengers.

For those travelling to or from southern Dubai, the station’s location near E311 and communities such as Al Furjan, Dubai Investment Park and Dubai South provides additional connectivity.

As passenger services begin, Al Yalayis is set to become another important point in Dubai’s expanding public transport network, connecting intercity rail journeys with the metro and other modes of transportation across the emirate.
