Etihad Rail bookings open from Al Dhaid

Passengers in Sharjah can now reserve Etihad Rail journeys from Al Dhaid Station, with fares starting at Dh19 and direct services to Fujairah taking only 25 minutes.

The new station has been added to Etihad Rail’s booking system for journeys beginning September 30, giving residents in Sharjah’s central region access to passenger rail services connecting the area with Fujairah and Abu Dhabi.

Booking information reviewed by INSIDER 18 on Tuesday showed two scheduled services in each direction between Al Dhaid and Fujairah. The booking system also listed two daily trains travelling each way between Al Dhaid and Abu Dhabi.

The launch coincides with the planned start of passenger services from Etihad Rail’s Al Yalayis Station in Dubai’s Jumeirah Golf Estates, which is also scheduled to begin operations on September 30.

Al Dhaid to Fujairah in 25 minutes

The shortest journey available from Al Dhaid is the route to Fujairah, with trains completing the trip in approximately 25 minutes.

The current timetable lists the following services:

  • Al Dhaid to Fujairah: 9.41am–10.06am, with Comfort tickets from Dh19 and Premium tickets from Dh49.

  • Al Dhaid to Fujairah: 7.51pm–8.16pm, with Comfort fares starting at Dh24 and Premium fares from Dh79.

  • Fujairah to Al Dhaid: 6.05am–6.30am, with Comfort tickets from Dh19 and Premium tickets from Dh49.

  • Fujairah to Al Dhaid: 5.17pm–5.42pm, with Comfort fares from Dh19 and Premium fares from Dh79.

The fares displayed on the booking system may vary depending on the selected service and class.

For passengers travelling between the two locations, the 25-minute journey provides a new alternative to travelling by road.

Two daily services connect Al Dhaid with Abu Dhabi

The booking platform also lists direct trains between Al Dhaid and Abu Dhabi.

The journey takes approximately one hour and 24 minutes, with two departures from Al Dhaid and two return services from Abu Dhabi currently shown in the timetable.

The listed services are:

  • Al Dhaid to Abu Dhabi: 6.32am–7.56am, with Comfort fares from Dh69 and Premium tickets from Dh149.

  • Al Dhaid to Abu Dhabi: 5.44pm–7.08pm, with Comfort fares from Dh59 and Premium fares from Dh179.

This gives residents in the central Sharjah region a direct rail option for reaching the UAE capital without having to make an intermediate rail transfer.

No Al Dhaid-Dubai service currently listed

While the Al Dhaid station is being introduced alongside the launch of passenger services from Dubai’s Al Yalayis station, the booking platform does not currently show a direct Al Dhaid-to-Dubai train for September 30.

Passengers planning journeys should therefore check the latest timetable and availability before making travel arrangements, as services and schedules may change.

Where is Al Dhaid railway station?

Al Dhaid Station is located in Muragabat, Sharjah.

Etihad Rail describes the station as serving communities throughout the central part of the emirate and providing a new connection to destinations across the UAE.

The station is listed as operating every day from 5am until 11pm.

Its location gives residents of Al Dhaid and surrounding areas access to the national passenger rail network, while road and bus connections provide options for reaching the station from nearby communities.

Facilities available for passengers

The station has been equipped with a range of facilities designed to support passengers before and after their journeys.

These include a dedicated prayer room, passenger waiting areas and public toilets.

A first-aid room is also available, along with information and customer-support services for passengers who require assistance.

Travellers can purchase tickets using the station’s ticket vending machine.

Dedicated areas have also been provided for passenger pick-up and drop-off, making it easier for family members, taxis and other vehicles to collect or leave passengers at the terminal.

Taxi and ride-hailing options

Passengers who do not have private transport can use taxi and ride-hailing services to reach the station.

Uber is available as an option, while Sharjah Taxi services can also be used for journeys to and from Al Dhaid Station.

These services provide a first- and last-mile connection for passengers whose homes or final destinations are not directly served by the station’s bus routes.

Bus connections from Al Dhaid Station

The railway station is also linked to Sharjah’s bus network.

An Etihad Rail bus stop is positioned approximately 50 metres from the station, allowing passengers to make a relatively short transfer between rail and bus services.

Three bus routes are currently listed for the station:

  • ER1: Al Madam Bus Station

  • ER2: Al Sajaa Bus Station

  • ER3: Jubail Bus Station

The connections give passengers additional ways to travel between Al Dhaid and other parts of Sharjah.

For people who live outside the immediate station area, the bus services could provide an important connection to the railway network.

Parking and car rental services

Passengers choosing to drive to the station can use the available parking facilities.

The station has 26 parking spaces in total, including 19 spaces for conventional vehicles and seven designated for electric cars.

Car rental services are also available at the station for passengers who need a vehicle after arriving.

The booking system currently displays both half-day and full-day parking at a listed price of Dh0.

Passengers are advised to check parking availability while making their train reservation, as spaces may be subject to availability.

A new transport option for central Sharjah

The introduction of passenger services at Al Dhaid provides residents of Sharjah’s central region with an additional alternative for inter-emirate travel.

Previously, passengers travelling between central Sharjah and destinations such as Fujairah or Abu Dhabi would generally rely on road transport.

The new rail service introduces scheduled connections that can shorten travel times on certain routes while providing passengers with another mode of transport.

The 25-minute Al Dhaid-Fujairah journey is particularly notable because of the short travel time.

The direct Abu Dhabi service, meanwhile, takes around one hour and 24 minutes.

Travel classes and fares

Passengers travelling from Al Dhaid can choose between Comfort and Premium classes on the services currently listed.

The lowest advertised fare on the Fujairah route is Dh19 for Comfort class.

Premium fares on the same route start from Dh49 on selected services.

For Abu Dhabi, Comfort fares begin at Dh59 on some departures, while Premium tickets are priced from Dh149 on the lowest-listed service.

Fares vary according to the departure selected and the class of travel.

Passengers should therefore check the booking platform for the final price and availability before confirming their journey.

Al Dhaid’s location and character

Beyond its new role as a transport hub, Al Dhaid is known as an oasis town in central Sharjah.

The area has long been associated with agriculture, particularly its date palm plantations and fertile farmland.

Its location close to the Hajar Mountains also gives the town a distinctive landscape compared with the more urbanised parts of the UAE.

Traditional agriculture continues to form part of Al Dhaid’s identity, with irrigation systems and farming practices contributing to its reputation as an agricultural centre.

A town known for agriculture and heritage

Al Dhaid has developed around its fertile agricultural surroundings and is recognised for its date production and fresh produce.

The town also has a long association with traditional activities and local heritage.

Visitors can find local markets, traditional crafts and pottery, while camel racing remains another feature of the area.

The combination of agriculture, heritage and its location near the mountains makes Al Dhaid different from Sharjah’s densely developed urban districts.

The new railway station adds a modern transport element to a town with a strong connection to traditional Emirati life.

Connecting Al Dhaid with the wider UAE

The opening of passenger bookings marks an important expansion in rail accessibility for residents of central Sharjah.

With direct services to Fujairah and Abu Dhabi, Al Dhaid is now connected to two destinations through scheduled passenger trains.

The availability of buses, taxis, ride-hailing services and parking further extends the station’s reach beyond the immediate area.

Passengers can therefore combine different forms of transport depending on where they begin and end their journeys.

What passengers should know before travelling

Those planning to use Al Dhaid Station should check their train departure time carefully, particularly because the timetable currently includes only two services in each direction on the Fujairah and Abu Dhabi routes.

Passengers should also verify the latest fare before purchasing a ticket because prices differ according to the train and travel class.

Those intending to park at the station are advised to check parking availability while making their booking.

Travellers using public transport can consider the ER1, ER2 and ER3 bus connections, while taxi and ride-hailing services provide additional options.

Rail connection adds convenience for Fujairah travellers

For people travelling between Al Dhaid and Fujairah, the new service offers a particularly short journey.

A direct train can cover the route in approximately 25 minutes, compared with travelling by road.

The two daily services in each direction give passengers a morning and evening option in the current timetable.

Return services from Fujairah also provide early and late travel options, allowing passengers to plan day trips or journeys between the two locations.

Direct link to the UAE capital

The Abu Dhabi route provides another significant connection from Al Dhaid.

At around one hour and 24 minutes, the journey offers a direct rail link between the central Sharjah town and the capital.

Two trains are currently listed from Al Dhaid, with corresponding return services from Abu Dhabi.

The availability of direct services means passengers do not currently need to change trains for the journey between these two stations.

Part of the UAE’s expanding passenger rail network

The launch of services at Al Dhaid comes as Etihad Rail expands its passenger network across the UAE.

The railway operator is introducing passenger stations and services designed to connect different emirates and communities through the national rail network.

Al Dhaid is one of the locations now being incorporated into this passenger network, alongside the new Al Yalayis station in Dubai.

The expansion is expected to give more residents access to rail travel for both inter-emirate journeys and wider travel across the country.

A blend of modern transport and local heritage

The arrival of passenger trains adds a modern dimension to Al Dhaid while maintaining the town’s role as a central Sharjah community.

Its agricultural landscape, date farms, markets and traditional activities remain important features of the area.

At the same time, the new station introduces modern facilities, digital ticketing, rail services and connections to buses, taxis and other transport options.

For local residents, the combination could make travel to other parts of the UAE more accessible.

What the current timetable shows

Based on bookings currently displayed for September 30, passengers have two daily services each way between Al Dhaid and Fujairah and two daily services each way between Al Dhaid and Abu Dhabi.

The Fujairah trip takes about 25 minutes, while the Abu Dhabi journey takes approximately one hour and 24 minutes.

Comfort fares begin at Dh19 for selected Fujairah services and at Dh59 for some Abu Dhabi departures.

Premium fares start at Dh49 for selected Fujairah journeys and Dh149 for the lowest-listed Abu Dhabi service.

The booking platform does not currently show a direct Al Dhaid-Dubai service for September 30.

As passenger operations begin, travellers are advised to check the official booking system for the latest schedules, fares and seat availability before travelling.
