Dubai Police has introduced a road safety awareness campaign aimed at encouraging responsible driving and reducing traffic violations. As part of the initiative, participants who engage with the programme and follow campaign guidelines will have the opportunity to enter a draw to win two cars.

Dubai Police Introduces Road Safety Campaign Featuring Two-Car Giveaway

Dubai Police has launched a new public awareness initiative designed to encourage safer driving practices and reduce traffic-related incidents across the emirate. As part of the campaign, residents will have the opportunity to participate in an educational competition and enter a draw to win one of two vehicles.

The campaign, titled “Drive with Awareness,” has been developed in collaboration with several private-sector partners and focuses on improving road user behaviour by highlighting some of the most common causes of traffic collisions.

Officials say the initiative aims to address risky driving habits such as following vehicles too closely, changing lanes abruptly, exceeding speed limits, using mobile phones while driving, failing to remain within lane markings, and stopping in unsafe locations that could pose risks to other motorists.

Focus on Prevention and Public Awareness

The programme was officially launched during a media briefing attended by senior representatives from Dubai Police and participating partner organisations.

Speaking at the event, Brigadier Essam Al Awar, Deputy Director of the General Department of Traffic, emphasized that awareness campaigns continue to play a critical role in Dubai’s long-term road safety strategy.

He explained that Dubai Police remains committed to reducing traffic accidents through a combination of education, enforcement, technological innovation, modern regulations, and infrastructure enhancements.

According to Al Awar, encouraging responsible behaviour among drivers is essential to creating a safer road environment for all members of the community.

Building a Culture of Responsible Driving

Officials noted that road safety extends beyond compliance with regulations and requires active participation from every road user. Through educational campaigns such as this, authorities hope to strengthen public understanding of how individual driving decisions can affect the safety of others.

The campaign also aligns with Dubai’s broader vision of developing a sustainable and secure transportation network that supports the city’s continued growth and development.

Interactive Competition Engages the Community

As part of the initiative, Dubai Police has introduced an interactive competition through its official social media channels. The digital campaign is designed to make learning about traffic regulations more engaging while encouraging public participation.

Participants will be invited to answer a series of questions related to road safety, traffic rules, and safe driving practices. When incorrect answers are submitted, users will receive educational feedback to help improve their understanding of the regulations.

First Lieutenant Salma Al Marri explained that the competition has been structured to combine learning with entertainment, making traffic awareness more accessible to a wider audience.

The competition will remain active for two weeks, after which participants will be entered into a prize draw offering two vehicles as rewards.

Road Fatalities Continue to Decline

During the announcement, Colonel Talal Abdulaziz Al Mansoori, Director of the Traffic Awareness Department, highlighted positive progress in road safety performance across Dubai.

He revealed that traffic-related deaths decreased by 19 percent between 2024 and 2025, reflecting the success of ongoing efforts aimed at improving road safety standards throughout the emirate.

According to Al Mansoori, this improvement is the result of a comprehensive strategy that combines stricter enforcement, advanced traffic monitoring systems, public awareness programmes, and continuous road safety initiatives.

Common Causes of Traffic Accidents

Dubai Police data shows that dangerous driving behaviours continue to contribute significantly to traffic incidents across the city.

Over the past two years, authorities recorded 1,928 accidents linked to sudden lane changes, making it one of the leading causes of collisions. Insufficient following distance was responsible for a further 1,529 accidents, while speeding contributed to dozens of additional crashes.

Officials stressed that many of these incidents are preventable when drivers remain attentive, follow traffic regulations, and adopt defensive driving practices.

Reaching a Wider Audience

To maximise public engagement, Dubai Police plans to promote the campaign through a combination of social media platforms, traditional media outlets, community events, and awareness activities.

Authorities believe that delivering road safety messages across multiple channels will help reach drivers of different age groups and backgrounds while reinforcing the importance of responsible behaviour behind the wheel.

Shared Responsibility on the Roads

Traffic officials emphasized that creating safer roads requires cooperation between authorities and the public. While enforcement and technology play important roles, driver awareness and personal responsibility remain key factors in preventing accidents and protecting lives.

The campaign seeks to remind motorists that every decision made on the road can have consequences for themselves, their passengers, and other road users.

Supporting Dubai’s Long-Term Safety Goals

The latest initiative forms part of Dubai Police’s ongoing commitment to improving road safety and reducing accident rates across the emirate. By combining education, community engagement, smart technologies, and enforcement measures, authorities aim to continue building on recent progress and further reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities.

As Dubai’s road network continues to expand and traffic volumes increase, campaigns such as “Drive with Awareness” are expected to play an increasingly important role in promoting safe driving habits and fostering a culture of responsibility among all motorists.

Encouraging Positive Driving Habits

Road safety experts believe that awareness campaigns are most effective when they encourage long-term behavioural change rather than simply highlighting traffic violations. By educating drivers about the consequences of risky actions, authorities hope to promote safer habits that become part of everyday driving routines. Small changes, such as maintaining safe following distances and avoiding distractions, can significantly reduce accident risks.

Importance of Driver Education

Continuous education remains one of the strongest tools in improving road safety. As traffic conditions evolve and new technologies are introduced into vehicles, motorists must stay informed about best driving practices. Awareness initiatives help reinforce existing traffic rules while introducing drivers to emerging safety standards and responsibilities.

Role of Technology in Road Safety

Dubai has increasingly embraced smart technologies to enhance traffic management and road safety. Advanced monitoring systems, intelligent traffic cameras, and real-time data analysis allow authorities to identify hazardous driving behaviours more effectively. These technologies not only assist with enforcement but also provide valuable insights that help shape future safety campaigns.

Protecting Vulnerable Road Users

Road safety efforts are not limited to motorists alone. Pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, and public transport users also benefit from safer road environments. Campaigns that encourage responsible driving contribute to protecting all road users, particularly those who may be more vulnerable during traffic incidents.

Reducing the Economic Impact of Accidents

Traffic accidents can result in significant financial costs for individuals, businesses, and society as a whole. Vehicle repairs, medical expenses, insurance claims, and traffic disruptions can place considerable strain on resources. By reducing accident rates, road safety initiatives can contribute to broader economic efficiency and community wellbeing.

Community Participation Drives Success

Authorities have emphasised that public participation is essential to the success of any road safety programme. Interactive competitions and educational activities encourage residents to actively engage with important safety messages rather than passively receiving information. This approach helps create stronger awareness and improves information retention among participants.

Supporting Dubai’s Vision for Sustainable Mobility

The campaign aligns with Dubai’s broader objectives of developing a modern, efficient, and sustainable transportation system. Safer roads contribute to smoother traffic movement, reduced congestion, and improved quality of life for residents. Encouraging responsible driving behaviour is considered an important component of achieving these long-term mobility goals.

Raising Awareness Among Younger Drivers

Young and newly licensed drivers represent an important audience for road safety education. Early exposure to safe driving principles can help establish responsible habits that last throughout a driver’s lifetime. Educational campaigns provide valuable opportunities to reinforce the importance of patience, concentration, and adherence to traffic laws.

Building a Stronger Safety Culture

Beyond reducing accident statistics, initiatives like “Drive with Awareness” aim to create a broader culture of safety across the community. When responsible driving becomes a shared value among residents, the benefits extend beyond individual motorists and contribute to a safer environment for everyone using the road network.

Looking Ahead

Dubai Police continues to invest in a combination of awareness programmes, enforcement strategies, and technological innovations to further improve road safety standards. As the city grows and transportation demands increase, ongoing collaboration between authorities, businesses, and the public will remain essential in maintaining safe and efficient roads for future generations.
