Sharjah authorities have announced that motorists will be able to use public parking spaces free of charge for three days as part of the Eid Al Adha 2026 holiday celebrations.
Sharjah Grants Motorists 3 Days of Complimentary Parking During Eid Al Adha 2026.

Sharjah City Municipality has announced a wide-ranging operational and public service plan for Eid Al Adha aimed at ensuring residents and visitors enjoy a smooth, safe, and festive holiday experience across the emirate. As part of the preparations, authorities confirmed that public parking spaces in Sharjah City will be free during the first three days of Eid Al Adha, while extensive inspection and monitoring campaigns will be carried out throughout the holiday period.
The municipality stated that more than 400 inspectors, along with 35 veterinarians and specialised technical personnel, will be deployed across various locations in Sharjah to oversee public health, food safety, livestock markets, slaughterhouses, and commercial establishments during the busy holiday season. The intensified field presence is intended to maintain high standards of hygiene, ensure compliance with municipal regulations, and provide residents with safe and efficient services throughout Eid celebrations.
Obaid Saeed Al Tunaiji, Director General of Sharjah City Municipality, said the municipality has completed comprehensive preparations for Eid Al Adha by mobilising teams across multiple departments to manage expected increases in public activity. According to him, the municipality’s integrated operational plan covers essential services ranging from parking management and sanitation to veterinary supervision and food inspection.
As part of the holiday initiative, motorists will be allowed to park free of charge in standard public parking spaces throughout the first, second, and third days of Eid Al Adha. The municipality explained that this exemption applies only to regular paid parking zones normally operating under the standard Sharjah parking system.
Under normal circumstances, paid public parking in Sharjah functions from Saturday to Thursday between 8am and 10pm, with Friday generally exempt except in certain designated areas. However, during the Eid holiday period, fees in regular parking areas will be temporarily suspended to ease movement across the city and provide convenience to families, residents, and visitors participating in celebrations and gatherings.
The municipality clarified that the free parking decision does not apply universally across all parking areas in the emirate. Certain premium zones and specially designated parking spaces that remain chargeable throughout the week, including weekends and official holidays, will continue operating under their existing paid system during Eid.
Officials explained that these exempted paid zones can be identified through blue informational signboards installed in those locations. Motorists have been advised to carefully check parking signs before leaving their vehicles to avoid potential fines or violations.
In addition, Sharjah’s smart parking facilities, particularly those situated in tourist destinations, waterfront locations, and high-demand commercial areas, will remain subject to parking fees throughout the Eid period. These smart parking lots operate under independent regulations and utilise digital payment systems managed through the Sharjah Digital platform and mobile application.
Authorities noted that these technologically advanced parking areas are designed to support traffic management in crowded destinations that typically experience significant visitor numbers during public holidays. As a result, they are excluded from the temporary free parking initiative introduced for the wider emirate.
The municipality stressed that parking inspectors and monitoring teams will continue operating during Eid to ensure proper use of public parking spaces and maintain orderly traffic conditions. Inspection campaigns will focus on preventing misuse of parking facilities, reducing congestion, and guaranteeing that the maximum number of residents and visitors can benefit fairly from available parking services.
Officials said inspectors will monitor illegal parking practices, obstruction of roads, improper use of reserved spaces, and violations affecting traffic movement in residential and commercial areas. The municipality encouraged drivers to comply with regulations and cooperate with authorities to maintain smooth transportation flow during the holiday period.
Beyond parking management, Sharjah Municipality also announced the deployment of extensive public health and veterinary inspection teams across livestock markets, slaughterhouses, food establishments, and retail outlets ahead of Eid Al Adha.
The municipality confirmed that more than 35 veterinarians and veterinary support staff will supervise livestock markets and slaughter facilities to ensure strict adherence to health and safety standards. Their responsibilities include examining sacrificial animals, monitoring slaughter procedures, verifying hygiene practices, and ensuring proper disposal of waste in accordance with public health regulations.
Eid Al Adha traditionally represents one of the busiest periods for livestock markets and abattoirs across the UAE due to the large number of residents purchasing sacrificial animals. Municipal authorities therefore intensify inspections each year to ensure animals meet health standards and that slaughter operations are conducted in safe, regulated, and sanitary conditions.
Veterinary teams will also monitor transportation and handling procedures for livestock to minimise health risks and maintain animal welfare standards. Municipality officials stated that specialised teams have been assigned to respond quickly to any emergencies or complaints related to livestock markets and slaughterhouses during the holiday.
At the same time, hundreds of inspectors from various municipal departments will conduct field visits to restaurants, food outlets, bakeries, supermarkets, and other commercial establishments throughout Eid. These inspections are intended to ensure food products are stored, prepared, and sold according to approved health and safety guidelines.
The municipality explained that Eid holidays typically witness increased demand for restaurants, catering services, and food retailers as families gather for celebrations and social events. Inspection teams will therefore intensify monitoring to prevent violations that could affect public health or consumer safety.
Authorities said inspectors will focus on hygiene standards, food storage conditions, expiry dates, employee cleanliness, pest control measures, and compliance with municipal licensing regulations. Any violations discovered during inspections may result in penalties or corrective action against businesses found failing to meet required standards.
Municipal sanitation and cleaning teams will also remain active around the clock during Eid to maintain cleanliness in public areas, parks, markets, beaches, and tourist attractions expected to receive large numbers of visitors.
According to officials, additional cleaning crews and equipment have been assigned to manage waste collection and sanitation services efficiently during the holiday period. Special attention will be given to livestock market areas and slaughterhouses where waste volumes typically increase significantly during Eid Al Adha.
Sharjah Municipality emphasised that the comprehensive holiday plan reflects its commitment to ensuring public comfort, safety, and convenience while supporting the festive atmosphere associated with Eid celebrations.
The municipality also encouraged residents and visitors to utilise digital services available through the Sharjah Digital platform and mobile application for parking payments, municipal inquiries, and access to public services during the holiday. Officials said digital systems help reduce congestion at service centres while improving efficiency and accessibility for the public.
Residents were advised to remain aware of parking regulations and to verify whether parking zones fall under the free parking exemption before leaving vehicles unattended. Authorities reminded motorists that parking in prohibited areas, blocking emergency access, or misusing designated spaces may still result in fines despite the temporary fee suspension in standard zones.
In addition to parking and public health measures, emergency response teams and municipal service departments will continue operating throughout Eid to address complaints, maintenance issues, and public inquiries. Officials stated that operational teams have been fully prepared to respond quickly to any incidents or disruptions occurring during the holiday.
The municipality’s preparations come as Sharjah expects increased movement across shopping centres, parks, tourist attractions, waterfront destinations, and family entertainment venues during the Eid break. Public facilities are likely to experience heavy visitor traffic as residents gather for celebrations, social visits, and leisure activities.
By offering temporary free parking and deploying extensive inspection teams, authorities aim to improve convenience for the public while maintaining order, cleanliness, and safety standards across the emirate during one of the busiest festive periods of the year.
Sharjah Municipality reiterated that all departments remain committed to providing seamless municipal services throughout Eid Al Adha and ensuring that residents and visitors can celebrate the occasion comfortably and safely. Officials urged the public to cooperate with municipal teams, comply with regulations, and contribute to preserving cleanliness and public order during the holiday celebrations.
Comprehensive Eid preparations
In addition to introducing free parking during the Eid Al Adha holidays, Sharjah Municipality has implemented a comprehensive preventive strategy focused on protecting public health and maintaining safety standards across the emirate during the festive season. Authorities said the initiative forms part of a wider operational plan designed to manage the increased activity expected at livestock markets, slaughterhouses, and public facilities throughout Eid.
As part of these preparations, the municipality has deployed a dedicated veterinary task force consisting of 35 veterinarians and trained veterinary assistants to oversee operations at the Sharjah Livestock Market and municipal abattoir. The specialised teams will work throughout the holiday period to ensure that all animals intended for sacrifice meet strict health and safety requirements before entering the food supply chain.
Municipal officials explained that veterinary experts will carry out detailed medical examinations on livestock brought into the market. These inspections include collecting and analysing blood samples from animals to detect any possible diseases or infections that could pose a risk to public health. Only animals confirmed to be healthy and medically fit will be approved for slaughter and sale during Eid Al Adha.
The municipality stated that veterinary personnel will also supervise both pre-slaughter and post-slaughter inspections at the abattoir. Before slaughter, animals will undergo physical examinations to verify their overall condition and ensure they are free from visible signs of illness or contamination. After slaughter, specialists will conduct further checks on the meat to confirm that it is safe, hygienic, and suitable for human consumption before being distributed to residents.
To strengthen disease prevention measures, Sharjah Municipality has additionally carried out an extensive sanitisation and pest-control campaign targeting livestock enclosures, holding areas, and quarantine facilities operating under municipal supervision. The spraying operations were conducted to reduce health risks, eliminate harmful insects and bacteria, and maintain clean conditions within animal housing areas.
Officials said these preventive actions are intended to ensure that only healthy livestock are permitted into the emirate and sold to the public during the busy Eid season. The municipality emphasised that maintaining high veterinary and hygiene standards remains a top priority, especially during Eid Al Adha when livestock trading and slaughtering activities significantly increase across the region.
Authorities added that inspection and monitoring teams will continue operating throughout the holiday period to oversee compliance with health regulations and respond quickly to any issues related to livestock safety, slaughter procedures, or public sanitation.
Food safety and public health
As Eid Al Adha approaches and consumer activity rises across Sharjah, municipal authorities have strengthened inspection campaigns targeting food businesses and personal care establishments to maintain public health and safety standards during the holiday season.
To manage the expected increase in customers at restaurants, bakeries, confectionery outlets, and other food-related businesses, the municipality has assigned 61 inspectors to carry out intensive monitoring operations throughout the emirate. These inspection teams will conduct regular visits to ensure that all food products are prepared, stored, and served in compliance with approved hygiene requirements, health regulations, and technical safety standards.
Officials stated that inspectors will examine food handling practices, cleanliness levels, storage conditions, employee hygiene, and the quality of ingredients used by establishments serving the public during Eid celebrations. The campaign is intended to guarantee that residents and visitors receive safe food products while preventing any violations that could affect public health.
At the same time, Sharjah Municipality has also increased oversight of men’s barbershops and women’s beauty salons, which typically witness higher customer turnout during festive occasions. A specialised team made up of 32 male and female inspectors has been tasked with supervising these facilities across the emirate.
The inspectors will verify that salons and beauty centres follow all approved health and sanitation procedures while using only authorised equipment, cosmetics, and tools. Authorities explained that the inspections aim to ensure safe service delivery, maintain hygiene standards, and protect customers from the use of unapproved or potentially harmful products during the busy Eid period.
Crackdown on illegal butchers.
Sharjah Municipality has further strengthened its Eid Al Adha operational plan by deploying 239 inspectors across the emirate to carry out monitoring, regulatory enforcement, and public awareness activities during the holiday period. The inspection teams will be responsible for observing public behavior, identifying violations, ensuring compliance with municipal regulations, and taking the necessary legal or administrative measures against offenders when required.
Municipal officials stated that one of the primary objectives of the campaign will be addressing the issue of unauthorised mobile butchers who operate illegally outside approved slaughterhouses and municipal facilities during Eid Al Adha. Authorities explained that these roaming butchers often carry out slaughtering activities in residential areas, streets, and unsuitable public locations without adhering to proper health, hygiene, or environmental standards.
Obaid Saeed Al Tunaiji, Director General of Sharjah Municipality, warned residents against dealing with unlicensed slaughter workers, stressing that such practices pose serious risks to public health, food safety, and environmental cleanliness. He explained that animals slaughtered outside officially approved abattoirs do not undergo the mandatory veterinary examinations conducted by specialised municipal teams before and after slaughter.
According to Al Tunaiji, these medical inspections are essential to ensure that sacrificial animals are healthy and free from diseases that could potentially be transmitted to humans through contaminated meat. Without professional veterinary supervision, consumers may unknowingly purchase or consume meat from infected or medically unfit animals.
He also pointed out that illegal butchers generally lack the professional expertise and technical knowledge required to properly assess the quality and safety of meat intended for human consumption. In many cases, they are unable to identify signs of disease, contamination, or spoilage that trained veterinarians and certified slaughterhouse personnel are qualified to detect.
In addition to health concerns, municipal authorities highlighted religious considerations linked to improper slaughter practices. Al Tunaiji noted that many unauthorised butchers may not fully understand or correctly apply the Islamic guidelines and conditions governing halal slaughter procedures. This raises concerns about whether the sacrifice is being carried out according to the required religious standards observed during Eid Al Adha.
Officials further explained that unregulated slaughter activities can contribute to environmental and sanitation problems, particularly when animal waste and remains are disposed of improperly in residential areas or public spaces. Such practices may attract insects, create unpleasant odours, and increase the risk of disease transmission within communities.
The municipality therefore urged residents to use only officially approved abattoirs and licensed slaughter services during Eid Al Adha to ensure public safety, maintain hygiene standards, and preserve the proper religious and legal procedures associated with sacrificial practices.
Authorities confirmed that inspection teams will continue monitoring markets, neighbourhoods, and public areas throughout the Eid holiday to identify illegal slaughter activities and enforce regulations against violators. Public awareness campaigns are also being conducted to educate residents about the dangers of dealing with unauthorised butchers and the importance of relying on certified municipal facilities for safe and hygienic slaughter services.
Public spaces and Eid musallas.
Sharjah Municipality has stated that its inspection teams will continue to actively monitor a range of public behaviors during the Eid Al Adha period, with particular attention to preventing practices that may disrupt public order or affect the emirate’s overall cleanliness and organised appearance. Among the key concerns are the emergence of informal or unlicensed street markets, as well as any other activities that could negatively influence community standards or the aesthetic image of Sharjah.
Officials explained that inspectors will be present in large numbers across beaches, parks, waterfronts, and public squares, where visitor turnout is expected to increase significantly during the holiday. These teams will work alongside lifeguards and support staff to ensure that visitors comply with safety rules and municipal regulations. Their responsibilities also include responding promptly to emergencies, maintaining crowd control where necessary, and ensuring that recreational spaces remain safe and well-managed for families and tourists.
The municipality emphasised that enhanced supervision in these high-traffic public areas is part of a broader effort to provide a secure and enjoyable environment for residents and visitors during Eid celebrations. Continuous monitoring will help prevent overcrowding, reduce safety risks, and ensure that public spaces are used appropriately in line with established guidelines.
In preparation for Eid prayers, Sharjah Municipality has completed comprehensive arrangements at all designated Eid Musallas across the city. These open-air prayer grounds have been fully prepared to accommodate large gatherings of worshippers expected on the morning of Eid.
Preparatory work included levelling and organising the ground surfaces to ensure comfortable and safe prayer conditions for attendees. In addition, designated parking areas have been arranged to facilitate smooth traffic flow and reduce congestion around prayer sites, allowing worshippers to arrive and leave with ease.
Municipal cleaning teams have also carried out thorough sanitation operations across all prayer locations, ensuring that the areas are clean, hygienic, and suitable for large congregational gatherings. To further enhance safety and comfort, intensive pest control measures have been implemented in and around the prayer grounds to maintain a healthy environment for worshippers.
Sharjah Municipality has called on all members of the public to cooperate with authorities by following the rules and guidelines set for public facilities during the Eid period. Officials encouraged residents to enjoy the festive atmosphere responsibly while respecting regulations designed to ensure safety, cleanliness, and order throughout the emirate.
The municipality also reminded residents that its call center remains available around the clock to receive reports, suggestions, and complaints. Citizens and visitors can contact the dedicated hotline at 993 at any time, as the service operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to support public needs and respond quickly to any concerns during the holiday season.
