Three critically injured following bus collision on Emirates Road in Dubai.

A road accident involving a bus on Emirates Road in Dubai has left three people in critical condition, with emergency services responding quickly and transporting the injured to medical care facilities for treatment.

A serious road accident on Emirates Road in Dubai has resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries after a passenger minibus collided with a stationary truck, according to officials and a social worker involved in assisting the victims.

Authorities confirmed that the crash involved a total of 16 passengers travelling in the minibus at the time of the incident. The impact proved devastating, leaving seven individuals dead at the scene while nine others sustained varying degrees of injury.

Emergency responders were quickly deployed to the location following reports of the collision. Injured passengers were transported to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention, while rescue teams worked to clear the wreckage and secure the area.

A social worker familiar with the case provided updated details on the condition of those affected. He stated that out of the injured passengers, eight individuals were admitted to hospital for treatment. He further noted that four of them have since been discharged after receiving medical care and being assessed as stable enough to leave.

However, concern remains over the condition of three workers who continue to be in critical condition. The individuals identified include two Indian nationals and one Nepali worker, all of whom are still receiving intensive treatment under close medical supervision.

Authorities have described the incident as one of the more severe road accidents reported in the area in recent times, given the high number of casualties and the seriousness of injuries involved.

Preliminary findings suggest that the accident occurred when the minibus crashed into a heavy vehicle that had been parked along the side of the highway. The truck had reportedly stopped due to a mechanical or technical issue and was stationary at the time of the collision.

Investigators believe that the minibus driver may not have maintained a safe distance or may have failed to notice the stationary vehicle in time to avoid impact. It is also being examined whether speed, visibility conditions, or driver fatigue may have contributed to the incident.

Eyewitness accounts and early police assessments indicate that the collision was sudden and severe, leaving little opportunity for passengers or the driver to react. The force of the impact caused extensive damage to the front section of the minibus and led to multiple passengers being thrown off balance inside the vehicle.

Authorities have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. This includes a detailed examination of vehicle condition, road safety compliance, and driver behaviour leading up to the incident. Officials are also reviewing whether proper warning signals were displayed by the stationary truck at the time it broke down.

Traffic on Emirates Road was temporarily disrupted following the accident as emergency crews worked to manage the scene, remove debris, and ensure the safe movement of other vehicles. The road was later reopened after clearance operations were completed.

Community members and support workers have expressed concern over the incident, particularly given that many of the victims are believed to be labourers commuting for work. Support services have been engaged to assist families of the deceased and injured, including coordination with hospitals and consular authorities where required.

The tragedy has once again highlighted road safety concerns on major highways, particularly involving heavy vehicles and passenger transport vans. Officials have reiterated the importance of maintaining safe driving distances, adhering to speed limits, and exercising heightened caution when travelling on high-speed roads.

As investigations continue, authorities are expected to release further details once a full technical and forensic assessment of the crash has been completed. For now, medical teams remain focused on stabilising the critically injured patients, while families of the victims await further updates on their conditions and recovery prospects.

Remains ‘disfigured’

A minibus involved in a tragic road accident on Emirates Road was carrying 16 passengers at the time of the crash, all of whom were employees of a UAE-based technical services company. According to information shared by company representatives, the workers were engaged in various specialised trades, including aluminium cladding, glass fitting, and general maintenance and handyman services.

The group was reportedly travelling together after completing duties at a work site. They were on their way back to their accommodation when the fatal collision occurred in the afternoon. The company, which operates as a contractor for a range of construction-related and facility management services, confirmed that all individuals involved in the accident were part of its workforce.

Following initial identification procedures, authorities and company staff confirmed the nationalities of those who lost their lives in the incident. Out of the seven fatalities, six were Indian nationals, while one was a Sri Lankan worker. This information was verified through coordination between the employer and relevant officials assisting at the scene and in hospitals.

Company representatives stated that the aftermath of the accident has been particularly distressing due to the condition in which some of the victims were recovered. The severity of the crash has made the identification process complex and emotionally difficult for those involved in confirming identities.

A social worker involved in supporting the affected families and coordinating formalities explained that the identification of the deceased is still ongoing. He noted that the physical condition of the bodies has made it challenging to complete the process quickly and accurately.

He further explained that official identification must be completed by authorised representatives of the company before additional administrative and legal procedures can proceed. This includes documentation required for repatriation and coordination with consular offices and families of the deceased in their home countries.

Authorities are continuing to work closely with the employer to ensure that all necessary steps are carried out with sensitivity and accuracy. The process involves multiple agencies, including hospital authorities, law enforcement, and diplomatic representatives, to ensure proper verification and handling of the remains.

In the meantime, medical teams are focusing on treating the injured survivors of the crash, while administrative efforts continue to support both the families of the deceased and those recovering in hospitals.

On Monday, representatives from the Indian Consulate visited one of the hospitals where the injured workers are being treated. During their visit, officials met with the survivors to assess their condition and ensure they are receiving appropriate medical care and support.

Consular officials also held discussions with hospital authorities and local agencies to coordinate ongoing assistance for the injured individuals. Their involvement includes facilitating communication with families, monitoring treatment progress, and ensuring that necessary documentation and support services are provided without delay.

In an official statement, the consulate expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. They emphasised that they are working in close coordination with UAE authorities and relevant institutions to provide all possible assistance to the affected workers and their families during this difficult period.

The statement also reflected the emotional impact of the tragedy, noting that efforts are being made to support not only the injured but also the families who are awaiting news and arrangements related to the deceased.

As investigations into the crash continue, attention remains focused on both the human toll of the incident and the procedural steps required to manage its aftermath. Authorities are expected to complete formal identification and documentation processes in the coming days, after which arrangements for repatriation and further legal formalities will proceed.

The incident has drawn attention to the vulnerabilities faced by migrant workers who travel in groups between job sites and residential accommodations, often relying on company transport arrangements. It has also highlighted the importance of road safety measures for commercial and passenger vehicles operating on high-speed highways.

For now, the priority remains the treatment of the injured and the careful handling of identification and repatriation procedures, as families in India and Sri Lanka await closure and official confirmation regarding their loved ones.
