Sharjah has expanded its public transport network by introducing three new bus routes serving the Etihad Rail station in Al Dhaid, making it easier for residents and commuters to access rail services and travel between key destinations across the emirate.
Sharjah Introduces Three Bus Services Connecting Al Dhaid with Etihad Rail Station

Sharjah Adds Three Bus Routes to Improve Access to Etihad Rail Station in Al Dhaid
Residents and commuters in Sharjah can now reach the Etihad Rail passenger station in Al Dhaid through three newly introduced public bus services connecting the station with Al Madam, Al Sajaa and Sharjah city.
The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) announced the new routes as part of its ongoing efforts to improve public transport connectivity and provide passengers with more convenient options for reaching the UAE’s national railway network.
The new services are designed to make transfers between buses and trains easier, allowing passengers from different parts of the emirate to access the rail network without relying entirely on private vehicles.
Under the new arrangement, travellers can use dedicated bus connections to reach the Al Dhaid station and continue their journeys by rail. The routes also provide return connections for passengers arriving by train who need to travel to nearby communities or Sharjah city.
The three services introduced by SRTA are:
- ER1: Al Madam to Etihad Rail Station in Al Dhaid.
- ER2: Al Sajaa to Etihad Rail Station in Al Dhaid.
- ER3: Sharjah city to Etihad Rail Station in Al Dhaid.
The introduction of these routes is intended to strengthen links between local communities and the country’s expanding passenger railway system.
Al Dhaid Becomes Sharjah’s First Etihad Rail Station
Al Dhaid became part of the UAE’s national passenger railway network on September 30, marking an important development in Sharjah’s public transport infrastructure.
The opening gave the emirate its first Etihad Rail passenger station and established a new rail connection linking Sharjah with destinations including Fujairah and Abu Dhabi.
The station provides residents with access to the wider inter-emirate railway network, creating additional travel options for journeys between different parts of the country.
With the launch of the three bus routes, passengers can now connect more easily with the station from Al Madam, Al Sajaa and Sharjah city.
The new services also highlight the importance of integrating local public transport with long-distance rail travel. Convenient connections between buses and trains can help passengers plan journeys more efficiently and reduce the need to arrange separate transport to and from railway stations.
For commuters and other travellers, the availability of these routes offers an additional way to reach the Al Dhaid station and access the national railway network.
Dubai Also Strengthens Connections Between Metro and Etihad Rail
Meanwhile, Dubai has introduced another transport connection designed to make transfers between public transport services more convenient.
A pedestrian bridge opened on Thursday, October 15, connecting Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station with Etihad Rail’s Dubai Al Yalayis Station.
The enclosed walkway provides passengers with a direct pedestrian route between the two transport facilities, offering an alternative to using a shuttle bus for the transfer.
Travellers can reach the bridge through Exit 1 or Exit 2 of Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station. The connection features escalators and moving walkways, with the journey between the stations taking approximately five to seven minutes.
Passengers who prefer not to walk can continue to use the Etihad Rail shuttle bus operating between the two locations.
Dubai Al Yalayis Station began passenger operations on September 30, establishing another connection between Dubai and the UAE’s inter-emirate railway network.
The pedestrian bridge adds to the transport options available to passengers, making it easier to move between the Metro and rail services.
Better Connections Across the UAE’s Public Transport Network
The new bus routes in Sharjah and the pedestrian link in Dubai reflect efforts to improve connections between different forms of public transportation.
In Sharjah, the ER1, ER2 and ER3 services provide access to Etihad Rail’s Al Dhaid station from three key locations. In Dubai, the new walkway offers a direct connection between the Metro and the Dubai Al Yalayis railway station.
These links can help passengers combine local bus services, urban rail and inter-emirate train journeys more conveniently.
As the UAE’s passenger railway network develops, connections between stations and existing public transport systems will remain important in helping residents and visitors make use of the expanding network.
For Sharjah commuters, the introduction of the three routes provides additional access to the emirate’s first Etihad Rail station, while Dubai’s pedestrian bridge offers another option for passengers transferring between Metro and railway services.
