Authorities in Dubai have reminded residents and businesses that sewage and petrochemical waste should be transported and discarded exclusively at officially authorised facilities, with all disposal activities required to follow the established environmental regulations and safety procedures set by the relevant authorities.<\/h3>

Dubai Police have taken legal action against 18 people over alleged violations involving the illegal disposal of hazardous waste across the emirate. The materials involved included sewage and petrochemical waste, which were reportedly dumped at locations that had not been authorised for such activities.<\/p>

The enforcement operation was conducted during the first six months of 2026 by the Environmental Crimes Section of the Economic Crimes Department, part of the General Department of Criminal Investigation. The operation was carried out in coordination with Dubai Municipality and the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority.<\/p>

Authorities began investigating after identifying breaches of regulations governing the handling and disposal of hazardous materials. Following the investigations, legal proceedings were initiated against those allegedly involved in the violations.<\/p>

As part of the enforcement action, authorities also confiscated 17 tankers that were used in connection with the reported offences.<\/p>

Dubai Police stressed that sewage and petrochemical waste cannot be disposed of at arbitrary locations. Such materials must be taken to approved disposal facilities and handled according to the procedures and regulations established by the relevant authorities.<\/p>

The police also called on companies, businesses and individuals involved in transporting or managing waste to ensure they follow all applicable rules. Proper handling and disposal, authorities said, are essential to reducing potential threats to public health and preventing environmental damage.<\/p>

The latest action follows a separate enforcement operation by Dubai Municipality on August 17, when tankers were reportedly discovered discharging wastewater at locations that were not authorised to receive it.<\/p>

Those found violating the applicable regulations can face substantial penalties. These include fines of up to Dh100,000, along with the possibility of having vehicles used in the offences impounded.<\/p>

The penalties are imposed under Executive Council Resolution No. 14 of 2015, which establishes fines and other measures for violations involving public cleanliness and improper waste disposal.<\/p>
