A recent comparison by INSIDER 18 found that fares on some popular international routes have risen by more than 100% between the second and final weeks of August, reflecting the growing demand from travellers preparing to return to the UAE.

The increase comes at a time when many residents are wrapping up their summer breaks and planning their journeys back before the start of the new academic year. With schools scheduled to reopen and employees returning to their regular work commitments, demand for UAE-bound flights typically rises during this period as families and professionals aim to resume their normal routines.

The late-August travel period is often one of the busiest times for return journeys, as residents who travelled abroad during the summer months begin heading back. Airlines usually experience increased booking activity during this period, which can lead to higher ticket prices, especially on routes with limited availability and strong passenger demand.

However, the rise in airfare costs has not been consistent across all international markets. While passengers travelling from certain Indian cities and Beirut have seen noticeable increases in ticket prices, other routes have experienced little change or even recorded lower fares compared with earlier weeks.

The comparison showed that price movements varied depending on the departure location, travel demand, and available flight capacity. Routes with higher passenger demand and fewer available seats saw more significant increases, while markets with greater availability remained relatively stable.

INSIDER 18 reviewed one-way economy-class ticket prices for flights scheduled during the second week of August and compared them with fares available for the final week of the month. The comparison was conducted on Tuesday to assess how prices changed as the peak return travel period approached.

The review covered several key international routes connecting major cities in India, Pakistan, Egypt, Lebanon, the United Kingdom, and the United States with airports across the UAE. The analysis focused on commonly used travel corridors where many UAE residents and visitors are expected to fly during the summer return period.

Among the routes examined, some connections from India recorded considerable increases as travellers prepared to return before the end of the holiday season. Indian cities are among the busiest sources of air traffic to the UAE, with thousands of residents and visitors travelling between the two countries throughout the year.

Similarly, flights from Beirut also showed noticeable price increases during the comparison period. The rise in fares reflects the impact of increased demand as passengers compete for available seats during a period when many people are travelling back to the UAE.

On the other hand, not every route experienced the same upward trend. Flights from cities such as Karachi and Lahore in Pakistan remained relatively stable, with ticket prices showing limited movement compared with the increases seen on some other routes. This suggests that factors such as seat availability, airline schedules, and passenger demand can have a major influence on fare changes.

Flights from New York also followed a different pattern, with prices remaining steady or becoming lower during the period analysed. Long-haul routes often experience different pricing patterns compared with regional and short-haul markets because demand levels, flight frequency, and booking trends vary significantly.

Travel experts often advise passengers to plan return journeys well in advance, especially during periods when demand is expected to increase. Last-minute bookings during peak travel periods can become more expensive as airlines adjust prices based on remaining seat availability.

The end of summer is traditionally a busy period for UAE travel because many residents take extended holidays during June, July, and August. As the new school term approaches, families with children often return within a similar timeframe, creating a concentrated increase in demand.

The reopening of schools is considered one of the major factors influencing travel patterns during late August. Parents and students who spent the summer abroad usually need to return before classes begin, while working professionals also plan their trips around their employment schedules.

Airlines use dynamic pricing systems that adjust ticket costs according to demand, booking patterns, and remaining capacity. As more passengers search for flights on popular routes, prices may increase, particularly when fewer seats remain available for specific travel dates.

Despite the overall rise on several routes, the comparison indicates that travellers may still find differences in pricing depending on their departure city and flexibility with travel dates. Passengers who can adjust their schedules or compare multiple airlines may have better opportunities to find more affordable options.

Travel advisers also recommend booking flights earlier during peak seasons to avoid paying significantly higher prices closer to departure dates. Checking different travel days, considering alternative airports, and monitoring fares regularly can help passengers manage costs.

The changing airfare trends highlight the importance of understanding seasonal travel patterns. While summer return periods often bring higher prices, fare changes are not identical across all destinations. Some routes may experience sharp increases due to heavy demand, while others may remain unaffected or become cheaper.

For UAE residents returning after their summer holidays, the key factor remains timing. Travellers who delay bookings until the final weeks of August may face higher costs on certain routes, while those who plan ahead may find more competitive fares.

Overall, the latest comparison reflects the strong influence of seasonal demand on international air travel. As thousands of residents prepare to return to the UAE before schools reopen and workplaces return to normal schedules, airfare fluctuations are expected to continue across different markets depending on passenger demand and flight availability.

Fares more than double on some routes

A review of flight prices for late-August travel to the UAE shows that some routes experienced significant increases, particularly those connecting major Indian cities with Dubai. Among the most noticeable changes was the Bengaluru-Dubai route, where ticket prices more than doubled as the end of the summer travel period approached.

For passengers travelling directly from Bengaluru to Dubai, an IndiGo economy ticket that was available for approximately Dh828 for a journey on August 13 increased to around Dh1,694 for travel on August 30. The difference represents a rise of more than 100 per cent within just a few weeks, highlighting the impact of increased demand during the peak return travel period.

The Bengaluru route was not the only Indian connection to witness a sharp increase. Flights from Kochi to Dubai also recorded a substantial jump in fares as more residents prepared to return to the UAE before schools reopened and normal work schedules resumed.

A direct IndiGo flight from Kochi that was priced at about Dh1,424 for August 13 rose to nearly Dh2,943 for August 30. Other available flight choices from Kochi also became more expensive, with fares increasing from roughly Dh1,098 during the second week of August to approximately Dh1,887 by the final week of the month.

The increase in prices from Kochi reflects the strong travel demand commonly seen on routes connecting Kerala with the UAE. Thousands of residents travel between the two regions throughout the year, and the end of the summer holiday period often results in higher booking activity as families and workers return.

Passengers travelling from Kozhikode also faced higher costs during the same period. Ticket prices on the Kozhikode-Dubai route, which were around Dh1,174 during the second week of August, increased to a range of approximately Dh1,956 to Dh2,022 for flights at the end of the month.

Other major Indian routes followed a similar pattern, although the level of increase varied. Hyderabad-Dubai fares climbed from about Dh857 in the middle of August to around Dh1,321 for late-August travel. Meanwhile, Mumbai-Dubai ticket prices increased from nearly Dh780 to approximately Dh1,095 over the same comparison period.

The increase on the Delhi-UAE route was comparatively smaller. Fares that were available for around Dh877 during the second week of August rose to about Dh1,167 by the final week. While the increase was noticeable, it was less dramatic compared with some other Indian departure points.

Outside India, routes from Lebanon also recorded higher prices. Beirut-UAE fares increased from approximately Dh831 to around Dh1,423, showing a significant rise as demand increased ahead of the late-summer return period.

However, not every international route experienced a similar upward movement. The comparison showed that some markets remained stable or even became cheaper despite the overall increase seen on several popular routes.

Flights from Egypt showed only a limited change during the period reviewed. Cairo-UAE fares increased slightly, moving from around Dh1,066 during the second week of August to approximately Dh1,132 in the final week. The small difference indicates that demand pressure was not as strong on this route compared with some Indian and Lebanese connections.

Pakistan routes followed a different trend, with ticket prices remaining steady or declining. A direct flight from Karachi to the UAE that was available for about Dh919 on August 11 dropped to approximately Dh792 for travel on August 30. This indicates that passengers on this route did not experience the same level of price pressure seen elsewhere.

Lahore-UAE fares also recorded a decrease during the comparison period. Prices that were around Dh1,226 earlier in August fell to approximately Dh1,062 by the end of the month, offering some relief to travellers flying from Pakistan.

Long-distance routes also showed more stability. Direct flights from New York to Dubai remained almost unchanged, with fares staying close to Dh2,880. Connecting flight options from New York were also broadly consistent, without the major increases observed on some shorter regional routes.

The difference in airfare movements across destinations demonstrates how airline pricing depends on multiple factors, including passenger demand, seat availability, route popularity, and flight schedules. While some routes experience sharp increases during peak travel periods, others may remain unaffected if sufficient capacity is available.

London routes displayed a mixed pricing pattern depending on the type of service selected. Passengers choosing connecting flights could still find options priced at around Dh797, while direct flights were significantly more expensive. The variation shows that flexibility in choosing flight options can influence the final ticket cost.

Travel analysts explain that passengers often see higher prices when many travellers are attempting to fly during the same period. The final weeks of August are traditionally busy for UAE-bound flights because residents who travelled during the summer holidays return before schools reopen and professional schedules resume.

Airlines typically adjust fares according to demand levels and remaining seat availability. When more passengers search for flights on specific dates, prices may rise quickly, especially on routes with limited flights or high passenger volumes.

For travellers planning to return to the UAE during peak periods, comparing different airlines, considering alternative travel dates, and booking earlier can help reduce costs. Those with flexible schedules may find better prices by choosing less busy travel days or exploring connecting flight options.

The latest fare comparison highlights that airfare increases are not happening uniformly across all destinations. While some Indian cities and Beirut experienced major price jumps, passengers travelling from Pakistan, New York, and some other locations found relatively stable or lower fares.

As the summer holiday season comes to an end, demand for UAE-bound flights is expected to remain high. Travellers are advised to monitor prices closely and plan their journeys in advance to avoid paying significantly higher fares during the busiest return travel period.

South Indian sectors see highest demand

Travel industry professionals have noted a significant rise in demand for UAE-bound flights as the summer holiday period approaches its end. According to travel experts, routes connecting southern Indian cities with the UAE are experiencing some of the strongest booking activity, with many passengers trying to secure seats before schools reopen and regular schedules resume.

Subair Thekepurathvalappil, senior manager at Wise Fox Tourism, explained that flights from several South Indian cities have been particularly busy in recent weeks. He said routes from Kochi, Kozhikode, Mangalore, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad have witnessed increased passenger demand as UAE residents begin returning after their summer breaks.

He pointed out that the combination of school reopening dates, workplace commitments, and the end of extended holidays has created a concentrated travel rush. Many families who travelled abroad during the summer months are now planning their return journeys within a limited timeframe, resulting in faster seat availability reductions on popular routes.

According to Thekepurathvalappil, the strongest pressure on ticket availability is expected towards the end of August. He noted that fares are likely to increase considerably from around August 26 as more passengers attempt to travel back to the UAE before the start of the new academic year.

The period between late August and early September is traditionally one of the busiest travel windows for UAE residents returning from holidays. Families with school-going children usually prefer to arrive before classes begin, while working professionals also aim to return in time to restart their normal routines.

The travel expert said high demand is expected to continue until approximately September 5, with limited availability on some routes potentially keeping ticket prices elevated. However, he added that airfares could begin to become more affordable after September 10 once the peak return period has passed and passenger demand starts to normalise.

Travel companies often observe similar patterns every year, with prices increasing during periods when a large number of passengers need to travel within the same timeframe. The end-of-summer period creates a particularly strong demand cycle because thousands of residents often plan their holidays during June, July, and August before returning for work and school commitments.

Thekepurathvalappil advised travellers to plan their return flights early whenever possible, especially if they require direct services on popular routes. Since direct flights are usually preferred by families and passengers travelling with children or large luggage, these options tend to fill up faster during peak travel periods.

The high demand for South Indian routes is also linked to the large number of UAE residents who travel between the Emirates and cities in Kerala and Karnataka. These routes operate throughout the year and often experience increased passenger volumes during holiday seasons and important travel periods.

Meanwhile, Pavan Poojary of Luxury Travels also highlighted the growing rush during the final week of August. He said travel agencies were seeing a noticeable increase in enquiries and bookings from families preparing to return to the UAE before schools reopen.

According to Poojary, many passengers are specifically looking for direct flights because they offer greater convenience and reduce travel time. Families travelling with children often prefer nonstop services, which can make these flights more competitive and contribute to faster seat availability changes.

He explained that the final week of August has become one of the busiest periods for UAE return travel, as many residents try to balance the end of their holidays with upcoming school and work responsibilities. The limited timeframe creates additional pressure on flight capacity, particularly on routes with frequent demand throughout the year.

Travel specialists said that passengers who delay booking until the last moment may face fewer choices and higher ticket prices. As seats become limited, airlines generally adjust fares based on availability and demand, meaning travellers searching closer to departure dates may find significantly higher prices.

Experts recommend that passengers monitor fares regularly and consider booking as soon as their travel dates are confirmed. Those who have flexibility may also benefit from choosing alternative dates outside the busiest travel days, when prices are often more competitive.

The increase in demand is not limited to a single airline or route. Multiple carriers operating flights between India and the UAE have experienced stronger booking activity as residents prepare for the transition from summer holidays back to normal routines.

Travel agents also noted that families are a major factor behind the late-August surge. Parents often plan their return around school calendars, ensuring children have enough time to settle before classes begin. This creates a predictable annual increase in travel demand during the final weeks of summer.

In addition to school schedules, employment commitments contribute to the rise in bookings. Many professionals who took extended leave during the summer need to return before their workplaces resume full operations. This overlap between educational and professional timelines creates a period of concentrated demand.

The current travel trend highlights the importance of advance planning during peak seasons. While airfare movements depend on several factors, including airline capacity and route popularity, booking early generally provides travellers with more choices and better opportunities to find reasonable fares.

As the UAE prepares for the end of the summer holiday season, travel industry representatives expect strong passenger movement through late August and early September. Once the peak return period concludes, demand is likely to stabilise, which may result in improved availability and more moderate ticket prices.

Overall, experts believe that the current increase in UAE-bound travel demand reflects normal seasonal patterns. With families returning before schools reopen and residents resuming their regular schedules, popular routes—especially those connecting South Indian cities with the UAE—are expected to remain highly active during the final weeks of August.

UAE-bound travellers face rising summer airfares as August draws to a close, with ticket prices increasing sharply due to the heavy demand for return flights.

[14,9
["post-46743","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-transport","category-uae","pmpro-has-access
["GET
