Air ticket prices from the UAE to several leading Arab destinations have increased significantly in the run-up to the Eid Al Adha holidays, with fares on some routes climbing by nearly 45 per cent. Travel industry professionals attribute the sharp rise to a combination of seasonal travel demand, limited flight capacity and a spike in late bookings as residents finalize holiday plans.<\/p>

According to travel agencies, bookings to major cities across the Middle East have surged over the past few weeks, placing considerable pressure on airlines operating regional services. The situation has been particularly noticeable on routes connecting the UAE with Saudi Arabia, where demand has strengthened due to the overlap of Eid travel and the annual Hajj pilgrimage season.<\/p>

Industry representatives noted that many travellers delayed making reservations, leading to a rush for tickets closer to the holiday period. This trend has reduced the number of available seats on popular routes and contributed to the rapid increase in prices.<\/p>

Praveen Choudhary, Managing Director of Al Saffron Travel & Tourism LLC, explained that airlines serving regional destinations are currently witnessing high passenger loads. He said seat occupancy levels on several flights have risen to between 70 and 75 per cent compared with previous weeks, reflecting the sharp increase in demand ahead of the festive break.<\/p>

He pointed out that Eid holidays traditionally generate a strong wave of travel from the UAE, as many residents prefer to visit their home countries or spend time with family during the celebrations. This seasonal pattern often results in a short-term surge in passenger traffic, especially to destinations within the Arab region.<\/p>

Choudhary also stated that several additional factors are contributing to the rise in airfare prices this year. Alongside stronger demand, airlines are dealing with operational pressures such as rerouted flight paths and higher fuel-related expenses, both of which have affected overall travel costs. He added that the growing number of last-minute reservations has further intensified pricing pressure, particularly on routes where seat availability is already limited.<\/p>

Among Arab destinations, Saudi Arabia has emerged as the busiest market during this travel period. Cities including Riyadh, Jeddah and Madinah are seeing especially strong demand due to travellers combining Eid holidays with religious visits linked to Hajj and Umrah activities. Travel agencies reported that flights to these cities are filling quickly, with many preferred departure dates already close to full capacity.<\/p>

Outside Saudi Arabia, Cairo in Egypt and Amman in Jordan are also recording increased travel demand from UAE residents. Industry experts said these cities remain among the most popular choices for family visits and holiday travel during major festive seasons.<\/p>

Travel consultants expect airfare prices to remain elevated until the Eid holiday rush begins to ease. Travel industry executives say airfare prices from the UAE to several regional destinations have risen sharply in recent weeks, with ticket costs on some routes increasing between 25 and 45 per cent compared with prices recorded over the previous two months. On certain heavily booked sectors, average fares are now approaching Dh3,500 as airlines face mounting pressure from strong holiday travel demand and limited seat availability.<\/p>

Industry experts explained that this year\u2019s market conditions are being influenced by several overlapping factors, including Eid Al Adha travel, Hajj-related journeys, and a growing number of families choosing to travel while children continue their studies remotely. The combination has created an unusually strong surge in passenger traffic across regional routes.<\/p>

He noted that many families are taking advantage of flexible school arrangements that allow children to attend online classes while abroad, encouraging longer stays and increasing the number of bookings during the festive season.<\/p>

According to Choudhary, this blend of travel requirements has intensified competition for available seats, especially on flights to major Arab cities. As a result, airlines have adjusted fares upward in response to the sustained demand. He added that the market is experiencing one of the busiest pre-Eid travel periods in recent years, with passengers rushing to secure tickets before prices climb further.<\/p>

Rashida Zahid, Vice President of Operations at musafir.com, said one of the key reasons behind the fare increases is the imbalance between rapidly recovering travel demand and the slower pace at which airline capacity is returning to normal levels. While demand for regional travel has accelerated ahead of Eid Al Adha, the number of available flights on many routes remains lower than pre-pandemic levels.<\/p>

She explained that although airlines across the region have gradually resumed operations and restored schedules, capacity constraints continue to affect many popular destinations. Several carriers are still operating reduced frequencies on certain routes, limiting the number of seats available during peak travel periods. This shortage has contributed directly to rising airfare prices, particularly on routes that traditionally experience heavy demand during Eid holidays.<\/p>

Zahid noted that the extended Eid break this year has further strengthened outbound travel from the UAE. With residents receiving longer holidays, many travellers have opted for overseas trips, resulting in flights reaching near-full capacity much earlier than usual. Travel agencies have observed that bookings accelerated rapidly once holiday schedules were announced, leaving fewer options for travellers making reservations closer to departure dates.<\/p>

She added that strong demand is not limited to Arab destinations alone. Routes to countries in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region and the Balkans are also witnessing increased bookings. Limited airline capacity combined with high seasonal demand has caused fares across these markets to rise steadily in recent weeks.<\/p>

Among emerging travel trends, Zahid highlighted growing interest among UAE travellers in Balkan destinations such as Serbia, Bosnia and Albania. These countries have become increasingly popular because they offer comparatively affordable holiday options, attractive landscapes and a wider range of halal-friendly tourism services. Improved tourism infrastructure and simplified travel procedures have also helped boost interest in these destinations among Gulf travellers.<\/p>

Industry professionals say travellers are now exploring alternatives to traditional holiday destinations due to rising airfare costs on some routes. However, even with this shift, the demand for regional Arab destinations remains exceptionally strong during the Eid season.<\/p>

Bharat Aidasani, Managing Partner at Pluto, said the annual Eid travel rush continues to place substantial pressure on airline pricing strategies across the Gulf region. According to him, the surge in fares is largely being driven by the basic imbalance between high passenger demand and constrained flight availability.<\/p>

He explained that Eid Al Adha consistently ranks among the busiest travel periods in the GCC, with millions of expatriates planning trips to visit family members while residents also use the holidays for short vacations and leisure travel. This seasonal movement creates a sharp spike in demand over a relatively short period, forcing airlines to manage limited inventory carefully.<\/p>

Aidasani said destinations such as Egypt, Jordan and Oman are among the markets currently experiencing particularly strong travel demand from UAE residents. Flights to these countries are witnessing heavy bookings due to their proximity, cultural appeal and popularity among families during holiday seasons.<\/p>

He added that reduced flight availability continues to be one of the biggest contributors to higher airfare prices this year. In many cases, airlines are unable to add enough extra flights to fully meet demand, especially during concentrated holiday periods when aircraft and operational resources are already heavily utilized.<\/p>

According to Aidasani, the sharp increase in ticket prices reflects the combined impact of seasonal demand and limited capacity. As available seats continue to sell out quickly, airlines are adjusting fares dynamically, resulting in higher prices for travellers booking closer to departure dates.<\/p>

Travel agencies across the UAE expect airfare prices to remain elevated until the Eid holiday travel wave subsides. Industry executives say demand is still exceeding available capacity on several key regional routes, making it unlikely that ticket prices will decline in the immediate future.<\/p>

Many travel consultants are advising customers to secure reservations as early as possible and remain flexible with travel dates in order to find more affordable options. Flights departing during peak days immediately before Eid are already nearing full occupancy on several routes, particularly to Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and other popular Arab destinations.<\/p>

Experts also believe that if demand continues at its current pace, airlines may maintain higher pricing levels throughout the holiday period. Last-minute travellers are expected to face the highest fares as seat availability becomes increasingly limited closer to Eid.<\/p>

Despite the rise in costs, travel demand from the UAE remains strong, reflecting residents\u2019 eagerness to travel during one of the region\u2019s most important holiday periods.
