On Wednesday, Qatar confirmed that certain personnel have been withdrawn from the US-operated Al Udeid Air Base, explaining that the move is being taken “in response to the current regional tensions.”
In an official statement, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasised that “the State of Qatar remains committed to all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of its citizens and residents as a top priority, including protection of critical infrastructure and military facilities.” The International Media Office added that any new developments would be shared through official channels.
The announcement follows comments from a US official to Reuters indicating that American forces are being temporarily pulled from key regional bases as a precaution amid escalating tensions. This disclosure came after a senior Iranian official warned neighbouring countries hosting US troops that Tehran could strike American military sites if Washington takes action against Iran.
