UAE reveals January 2026 fuel rates: What drivers will pay to fill up a full tank

Weather authorities warn that parts of the UAE may see rain on New Year’s Eve, accompanied by strong winds and rough sea conditions, prompting residents and visitors to stay cautious and plan outdoor activities carefully.

The UAE on Wednesday, December 31, released the petrol prices that will apply in January 2026, announcing a reduction set by the Fuel Prices Monitoring Committee, offering motorists some early New Year relief.

Fuel rates in the country are reviewed and approved monthly by the Ministry of Energy. Prices are calculated based on the average global oil price trend, either rising or falling, along with the operating costs incurred by fuel distribution companies. The revised prices will come into effect from January 1, 2026.

Petrol prices for January 2026

  • Super 98: Dh2.53 per litre

  • Special 95: Dh2.42 per litre

  • E-Plus 91: Dh2.34 per litre

With the new rates, motorists will spend between Dh8.67 and Dh12.58 less to fill a full tank compared to December, depending on the vehicle type and fuel grade used.

The revised pricing reflects the latest global oil market movements and provides some cost savings for drivers as the new year begins.

The reduction in fuel prices is expected to ease transportation costs for households, particularly those who rely on private vehicles for daily commuting. Lower petrol rates could translate into modest monthly savings for families and individuals, especially frequent drivers and those travelling long distances for work. Ride-hailing drivers, delivery workers and small business owners who depend heavily on fuel may also benefit from reduced operating expenses. While the price cut is relatively small, it offers welcome relief amid broader cost-of-living considerations at the start of the year.

Fuel prices in the UAE are adjusted in line with international oil market movements, ensuring transparency and consistency in pricing. The monthly review mechanism allows local prices to reflect global trends while accounting for distribution and operational costs. Analysts note that fluctuations in crude oil prices, geopolitical developments and seasonal demand often influence these changes. The January reduction suggests a softening in global oil prices toward the end of the year, although future rates will continue to depend on international market conditions.

Looking ahead, motorists are advised to monitor monthly fuel price announcements, as rates can vary depending on global supply and demand dynamics. While the January 2026 decrease offers short-term savings, prices could rise or fall in the months ahead. Energy experts recommend efficient driving practices, such as regular vehicle maintenance and avoiding unnecessary idling, to maximise fuel efficiency regardless of price changes. For now, drivers can begin the new year with slightly lower fuel costs across all petrol categories.
