UAE Weather: Warning issued as fog reduces visibility; minimum temperature drops to 7°C

Authorities in the UAE have issued a weather alert due to dense fog causing low visibility, with temperatures expected to drop to a minimum of 7°C, urging caution for commuters and residents.

UAE residents may witness rainfall on Friday, December 26, as the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) forecasts partly cloudy to cloudy skies across some northern and eastern parts of the country.

Humidity is expected to rise overnight into Saturday morning in certain coastal and inland regions, with the possibility of fog or mist forming. The NCM issued a fog warning Friday morning, alerting the public to reduced horizontal visibility, which may occasionally decrease further in some inland areas between 5:00 am and 9:30 am.

Friday’s temperatures are expected to fall to a minimum of 17°C in Abu Dhabi, 18°C in Sharjah, and 19°C in Dubai. Maximum temperatures will reach 24°C in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, while Dubai may see a high of 26°C.

Earlier forecasts from the NCM indicated moderate weather with a chance of light rain from December 25 to 29 across the UAE. The winter season officially started on December 22, though residents have already experienced colder conditions following last week’s heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.

Winds are expected to be light to moderate, blowing from southwesterly to northwesterly directions at speeds generally ranging from 10 to 20 km/h, occasionally reaching up to 35 km/h. Sea conditions will be slight to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and slight in the Oman Sea.

Meteorologists have advised residents and commuters to exercise caution during the early morning hours due to limited visibility caused by fog and mist in several inland and coastal areas. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, maintain safe distances, and use headlights appropriately while navigating highways and local roads. Authorities have also recommended that outdoor activities be planned with care, especially for children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions, as high humidity and cold temperatures may cause discomfort. Residents are encouraged to stay updated with real-time weather reports from the NCM and follow safety guidelines to minimize risks associated with these conditions.

The NCM also highlighted that the fluctuating temperatures and expected light rainfall could impact daily routines, including commuting and outdoor work. People living in northern and eastern areas are advised to prepare for cooler mornings and slightly warmer afternoons, ensuring adequate clothing to manage the changing weather. Farmers and those in the agricultural sector have been urged to monitor humidity levels and rainfall predictions closely, as these conditions may affect crop health and irrigation needs. Public transport authorities have been asked to maintain contingency plans in case of poor visibility or wet roads, ensuring that services remain safe and reliable for passengers.

In addition, maritime authorities have issued guidance for sailors and fishermen due to the moderate sea conditions in the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea. Small vessels are advised to exercise caution, especially when winds increase up to 35 km/h, and to check weather updates before heading out to sea. Recreational boaters and coastal visitors are encouraged to follow safety measures and remain vigilant for sudden changes in wind or water conditions. The NCM stressed the importance of monitoring official forecasts and alerts to ensure safety on land and at sea during the upcoming days.
