Dubai: Two hurt in E311 collision after motorist reportedly blacked out

Two individuals sustained injuries in a recent road accident after a driver reportedly lost consciousness while behind the wheel, according to Dubai Police.
The car left its lane on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road (E311) and crashed into a concrete divider, resulting in moderate to serious injuries to those inside. Emergency services transported the injured occupants to hospital for medical care.
Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said traffic investigation teams responded promptly to the scene to examine the circumstances of the crash and gather necessary evidence.
Traffic units also took charge of regulating vehicle movement, securing the crash site, and ensuring emergency and rescue teams could reach the location without delay. Officers assisted in clearing the damaged car from the road, allowing traffic to return to normal in the shortest possible time.
Following the incident, Dubai Police issued a safety advisory cautioning drivers against operating vehicles while fatigued, sleepy, or suffering from medical conditions such as fluctuating blood sugar levels, hypertension, psychological issues, or sudden fainting spells.
Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan warned that motorists often dismiss minor health warning signs, even though these can rapidly escalate into serious incidents on the road. He explained that losing consciousness while driving is one of the most hazardous factors in severe traffic accidents, as control of the vehicle can be lost within moments, endangering both the driver and other road users.
He emphasised the need for routine health screenings, particularly for those with long-term illnesses or drivers who spend extended hours on the road. Motorists were also advised to take regular breaks during lengthy trips and to stop driving immediately if they feel unwell, dizzy or overly tired.
Authorities also highlighted the importance of public awareness and shared responsibility in preventing road accidents. Drivers were reminded to remain alert at all times and to ensure they are physically and mentally fit before starting any journey. Simple precautions such as getting adequate sleep, staying hydrated and managing stress can significantly reduce the risk of accidents. Officials encouraged families and employers to support drivers by promoting healthy routines, especially for those who commute long distances or work irregular hours. By fostering a culture of safety and responsibility, Dubai Police aim to reduce preventable accidents and protect lives on the emirate’s busy roads.
Dubai Police further urged motorists to make use of smart safety technologies available in modern vehicles, such as driver fatigue alerts, lane departure warnings and emergency braking systems. These features, when used correctly, can provide early warnings and help prevent serious collisions. Authorities also advised drivers to seek immediate medical attention if they experience recurring symptoms such as dizziness or blackouts. Public cooperation, they said, plays a vital role in improving overall road safety. Through continued education, enforcement and community engagement, Dubai Police remain committed to reducing accidents and ensuring safer travel for everyone.
