UAE denounces drone strike on UN interim peacekeeping force base in Sudan

The UAE strongly denounced the drone strike that targeted a logistics support facility linked to the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei in the city of Kadugli, Republic of Sudan.
The attack led to the death and injury of several members of the Bangladeshi battalion serving within the peacekeeping mission. In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the UAE firmly condemns this brutal attack and reiterates its constant rejection of all forms of violence that threaten security and stability.
The Ministry renewed its emphasis on the United Arab Emirates’ clear opposition to assaults on peacekeeping forces, stressing that targeting the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei represents a breach of international law and Security Council Resolution 2802.
The Ministry expressed the UAE’s complete solidarity with United Nations peacekeeping forces and with all countries contributing to these missions.
The Ministry also conveyed its heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims, the interim government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, the Bangladeshi people, and the United Nations, while wishing the injured a swift recovery.
The UAE further stressed the importance of safeguarding United Nations personnel who operate in challenging and volatile environments to maintain peace and protect civilians. It highlighted that peacekeepers play a vital role in conflict prevention, ceasefire monitoring, and humanitarian access, often at great personal risk. Any attack on such forces not only endangers lives but also weakens international efforts aimed at restoring stability in conflict-affected regions. The UAE reiterated that ensuring the safety and security of peacekeeping missions is a shared responsibility of the international community and urged all parties to respect their mandates, facilities, and personnel without exception
The statement also underlined the need for accountability and thorough investigations into attacks targeting international forces. The UAE called on relevant authorities to identify those responsible for the drone strike and ensure they are held accountable in accordance with international law. It emphasized that impunity for such acts only fuels further violence and instability. By reinforcing legal accountability, the UAE said the international community can send a clear message that attacks on peacekeeping missions will not be tolerated. Upholding justice, it added, is essential for maintaining trust in global peacekeeping frameworks and multilateral cooperation.
In addition, the UAE reaffirmed its longstanding support for United Nations peacekeeping operations worldwide. It noted that such missions are a cornerstone of collective security and play a critical role in protecting civilians, supporting political processes, and facilitating humanitarian assistance. The UAE emphasized its commitment to working closely with international partners to strengthen peacekeeping capacities and enhance the safety of deployed personnel. It also highlighted the importance of diplomatic dialogue, conflict resolution, and inclusive political solutions as sustainable paths toward long-term peace and stability in regions affected by conflict.
The Ministry concluded by reiterating the UAE’s call for restraint and the avoidance of actions that could escalate tensions further. It urged all parties involved in the Sudan conflict to prioritize dialogue and respect international humanitarian principles. The UAE emphasized that lasting peace can only be achieved through cooperation, mutual respect, and adherence to international norms. It also reaffirmed its readiness to support international and regional efforts aimed at reducing violence, addressing humanitarian needs, and fostering stability, while continuing to stand in solidarity with peacekeeping forces and affected communities.
