The UAE has announced new Friday prayer timings, moving Jumuah earlier. Residents are advised to adjust their schedules accordingly to accommodate the change and ensure timely participation in congregational prayers.
Adapting to Early Jumuah: UAE Sets Updated Friday Prayer Schedule
With the new Friday prayer timing approaching, worshippers in the UAE are being urged to adjust their routines. The General Authority for Islamic Affairs, Endowments, and Zakat has announced that starting January 2, Jumuah prayers will commence earlier at 12:45 pm across the country.
Sheikh Ayaz Houze, Imam and Khateeb at NGS Mosque, encouraged the community to prepare in advance over the next few weeks. “With the Friday khutbah starting earlier, it’s important for worshippers to plan ahead so they can arrive calmly and spiritually ready,” he said.
The imam emphasized the significance of Friday prayer in Islam, highlighting that it should take precedence over daily activities. Citing the Quran (62:9), he reminded believers: “O you who believe, when the call for Jumuah is made, hasten to the remembrance of Allah and leave off trade.”
Sheikh Ayaz advised arriving at least 15 to 30 minutes before the khutbah to allow time for voluntary worship and to settle in peacefully. He noted that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) encouraged early arrival, explaining that those who come early for Jumuah receive greater spiritual rewards.
“Coming early not only increases personal blessings but also helps maintain order and minimizes disruptions for other worshippers,” the imam added, urging the community to take the remaining three Fridays as an opportunity to adjust before the new schedule takes effect.
Recognizing that changes in routine can sometimes cause confusion, Sheikh Ayaz advised worshippers to adjust gradually. “When habits are firmly established, any shift can lead to forgetfulness. I suggest setting reminders, informing family members, and keeping the new timing in mind throughout the week,” he said, emphasizing that the Friday khutbah is an essential part of Jumuah prayers and should be listened to attentively.
The imam acknowledged that the initial days of the new schedule may bring minor challenges, such as heavier traffic around mosques and last-minute workplace adjustments. Still, he expressed confidence in the community’s ability to adapt. “The Muslim community in the UAE has always demonstrated dedication and discipline. With cooperation, these obstacles will be short-lived,” he noted.
Sheikh Ayaz also pointed out that students and school bus drivers might face difficulties reaching mosques on time during the early weeks of the adjustment.
He encouraged worshippers to see the earlier prayer schedule as a positive change. “Starting Jumuah earlier is a blessing. It allows more time for family, personal reflection, and voluntary worship,” he said, urging patience, understanding, and unity as the new timing takes effect.
