UAE’s leading travel trend: Growing popularity of family getaways and vacations that bring multiple generations together.

A major travel shift in the UAE highlights the increasing demand for family-oriented trips, where grandparents, parents, and children prefer shared holiday experiences that strengthen family bonds across generations.

A recent report shows that more UAE families are transforming their vacations into multi-generational gatherings, choosing to travel together to strengthen family ties despite hectic daily routines.

According to a study by the travel platform Skyscanner, 41% of UAE residents intend to take family trips in 2026. This continues a growing pattern, as 31% said they had already travelled with parents and grandparents in the past two years.

Every year, many UAE residents, including older family members, head overseas—often seeking cooler destinations during the summer and returning to travel again over the winter break. In addition, a significant number choose to visit regions such as Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia during Eid and other festive seasons.

Moreover, travellers from the UAE are increasingly selecting destinations and travel plans that align with their interests—whether that’s literary retreats, personal hobbies, passions, or wellness and skincare experiences.

The Skyscanner Travel Trends 2026 report outlines seven key movements expected to shape how UAE residents will travel next year.

In fact, 61% of respondents shared that they intend to take more international trips in 2026 compared to 2025.

The report highlights a growing desire among travellers to build connections through their journeys—many are forming friendships or even finding romantic partners while traveling. Statistics reveal that 82% of UAE residents have thought about going abroad specifically to meet new people, and 32% are interested in engaging with individuals from different cultural backgrounds.

Accommodation choices are also becoming a major factor influencing travel decisions. The study showed that 76% of UAE travellers have chosen a destination mainly because of the hotel or lodging options available there.

In addition, beauty and wellness continue to play a significant role in shaping travel behaviour. Over half (55%) of UAE adults have purchased beauty or skincare products during previous overseas trips, and 45% plan to visit international beauty stores or book skincare treatments in 2026. This indicates that beauty routines are increasingly influencing not only travel destinations but also travel purposes. Interestingly, 37% of respondents noted that beauty-related services and products are more affordable abroad than in the UAE.

Research indicates that almost 92% of UAE residents are considering booking a summer or autumn getaway to a mountain destination next year. About 31% are planning hiking-focused holidays, and 59% say the appeal lies in the fresh air and cooler temperatures that mountain escapes offer.

Food exploration is also a key part of the travel experience. Around 83% of UAE travellers enjoy visiting local supermarkets or grocery stores during their trips, with 57% saying it helps them better understand local culture. Additionally, 44% expressed interest in tasting authentic local cuisine while on vacation.

Another notable finding is that over 70% of travellers value having reading time during their journeys, and 78% have considered planning a trip inspired by books or literary themes.
