Mother and Toddler Die in Fujairah Highway Crash; Two Family Members Recovering

A tragic road accident on the Fujairah–Khorfakkan highway has claimed the lives of a young mother and her one-year-old daughter, while the child’s father and older sibling remain hospitalized in stable condition, according to local authorities.

The family, all Emirati nationals, was traveling through the Fouz Petroleum area on Wednesday when their vehicle struck a stationary truck parked along the roadside. The impact caused severe damage to the car and prompted an immediate emergency response.

After receiving an alert through its operations center, Fujairah Police dispatched patrols and emergency personnel to the scene. National Ambulance teams also arrived quickly, providing urgent medical care before transporting the injured to Sheikh Khalifa Hospital in Fujairah.

Despite the efforts of first responders and medical staff, the 28-year-old mother and her infant daughter succumbed to the injuries they sustained in the collision. The father and the family’s three-year-old daughter survived the crash and continue to receive treatment. Officials said both are in stable condition.

The deaths have deeply affected relatives and members of the local community. Funeral prayers were held on Thursday evening after the Isha prayer in Khorfakkan, where family members, friends, and residents gathered to mourn the victims and offer condolences.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the fatal collision. Investigators are examining multiple aspects of the incident, including road conditions, vehicle positioning, and whether driver distraction or other contributing factors played a role.

Authorities have not yet announced the final findings of the investigation and have urged motorists to remain alert, avoid distractions while driving, and exercise extra caution, particularly on highways where stopped or parked vehicles may present unexpected hazards.

Road safety experts frequently emphasize that maintaining full attention behind the wheel, observing speed limits, and watching for obstacles ahead are essential steps in preventing serious accidents. Officials are expected to release additional information once the investigation is complete.

Police Urge Drivers to Stay Alert Following Fatal Road Crash

Following the recent fatal collision, Fujairah Police have reiterated the importance of attentive driving and urged all motorists to make road safety their highest priority.

Brigadier Saleh Mohammed Abdullah Al Dhanhani, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department at Fujairah Police, stressed that remaining focused while driving is essential to preventing serious accidents. He noted that even a brief distraction can reduce a driver’s ability to react to unexpected hazards, potentially leading to life-threatening consequences.

The senior officer advised motorists to approach parked or disabled vehicles with extra caution by slowing down well in advance and carefully assessing traffic conditions before attempting to pass. He also emphasized the need to leave sufficient space between vehicles, allowing enough time to respond safely if traffic suddenly slows or stops.

Drivers were reminded to check surrounding lanes thoroughly before changing direction and to avoid abrupt maneuvers that could place themselves or other road users at risk. Maintaining steady control of the vehicle and anticipating the actions of nearby traffic are key elements of safe driving, he said.

Brig. Al Dhanhani also highlighted the dangers of distracted driving, urging motorists to keep their full attention on the road instead of using mobile phones or engaging in activities that divert their focus. He explained that distractions, even those lasting only a few seconds, can significantly increase the likelihood of a collision.

In addition, motorists were encouraged to obey all traffic signs and signals, drive at speeds appropriate for road and weather conditions, and adapt their driving to changing traffic situations. Responsible driving, he said, plays a crucial role in protecting not only vehicle occupants but also pedestrians and other road users.

Fujairah Police continue to promote safe driving practices through public awareness efforts, encouraging motorists to exercise patience, remain vigilant, and follow traffic regulations to help reduce accidents and improve road safety across the emirate.
