Dubai gold rates rise by Dh5 per gram as regional tensions drive market uncertainty.

Dubai’s gold market witnesses a Dh5 per gram increase as escalating regional conflicts create uncertainty among investors, pushing demand for the precious metal higher amid shifting global economic conditions.

Analysts note that the strength of the US dollar has offered some backing to gold prices, though the overall environment remains difficult as higher crude oil costs raise concerns about renewed inflation pressures.

UAE Gold Prices Recover Dh5 Per Gram as Market Focus Remains on US Rates and Inflation Risks

Gold prices across the UAE moved higher on Tuesday morning, gaining Dh5 per gram after recent declines, as investors continued to weigh competing factors influencing the precious metal market. While geopolitical uncertainty in the region has supported demand for gold as a safe-haven asset, concerns over tighter US monetary policy and ongoing inflation pressures have limited stronger gains, according to market observers.

The price of 24-karat gold in the UAE increased to Dh488 per gram during early trading on Tuesday, compared with Dh483 per gram recorded at Monday’s market close. Other gold categories also saw changes, with 22K gold trading at Dh495.25 per gram, while 21K, 18K and 14K gold were priced at Dh474.75, Dh407 and Dh317.50 per gram respectively, based on figures released by the Dubai Jewellery Group.

In international markets, gold showed renewed strength as spot prices climbed 0.93 per cent to reach around $4,050 per ounce during UAE morning trading hours. Silver prices also moved upward, rising 1.84 per cent to approximately $57.87 per ounce after experiencing a sharp decline of 6.5 per cent during the previous week.

Market analysts said the recent movement in precious metals reflects a balance between supportive and negative factors. A relatively steady US dollar has helped maintain interest in bullion, but higher energy prices and concerns over inflation have created additional uncertainty for investors.

Rising oil prices have increased worries that inflation could remain elevated for longer than expected, potentially influencing central bank decisions on interest rates. Higher interest rates generally create pressure on gold because the metal does not generate income compared with interest-bearing investments.

Vijay Valecha, Chief Investment Officer at Century Financial, said that recent developments have created challenges for non-yielding assets such as gold. He noted that investors are closely monitoring economic signals, particularly those related to US interest rate expectations and inflation trends, which continue to shape market sentiment.

Despite short-term pressures, gold continues to attract attention due to its traditional role as a store of value during periods of economic uncertainty. However, analysts believe that the direction of prices will depend on how global markets respond to changing interest rate expectations, currency movements and geopolitical developments.

For UAE consumers and investors, fluctuations in international gold prices, currency conditions and global economic trends will remain key factors determining local retail gold rates in the coming days.

Oil Price Surge and Rate Expectations Put Pressure on Gold Despite Safe-Haven Demand

The recent rise in crude oil prices has added another layer of uncertainty to global financial markets, with Brent crude moving above the $90 per barrel mark. The increase in energy costs has raised concerns among investors that inflationary pressures may remain stronger for a longer period, potentially influencing the future path of monetary policy.

Higher oil prices often contribute to increased costs across various sectors, from transportation to manufacturing, which can make it more difficult for central banks to bring inflation down. As a result, market participants are closely watching economic indicators and central bank signals for clues about the direction of interest rates.

According to the CME FedWatch tool, investors have increased their expectations of a possible US Federal Reserve rate increase by December. Market pricing now reflects an 80 per cent chance of a rate hike, compared with 73 per cent a week earlier. The shift highlights growing expectations that policymakers may maintain a tighter approach if inflation remains persistent.

Analysts said the combination of rising energy prices and expectations of higher US interest rates has created a challenging environment for gold. Although the precious metal traditionally benefits during periods of geopolitical stress because investors seek safer assets, the impact of higher borrowing costs has limited its upward movement.

Gold does not provide interest income, making it less attractive when yields on bonds and other fixed-income investments rise. As expectations for elevated US rates continue, investors have become more selective in their exposure to bullion, balancing concerns about global instability against the pressure created by tighter monetary policy.

Geopolitical developments have continued to provide some support for gold prices, as uncertainty often encourages investors to shift funds toward assets considered stores of value. However, analysts noted that the inflationary consequences of conflicts, combined with expectations that interest rates could remain high for an extended period, are currently preventing a stronger rally in the precious metal.

From a market technical perspective, gold’s short-term outlook remains cautious. Analysts pointed out that prices are currently moving within a downward trend channel on the four-hour chart and remain below important moving average levels, suggesting that sellers still have some control over near-term price movements.

The immediate resistance zone for gold is estimated between $4,040 and $4,045, which represents the upper edge of the current trading channel. A move above this range could indicate improving momentum and potentially open the door for a recovery toward higher levels.

On the downside, analysts are monitoring the $3,970 area as a key support level. This price point has been tested several times recently, making it an important zone for traders. If gold manages to hold above this level, it could provide stability and encourage buyers to return to the market.

However, a sustained decline below the $3,970 support region could increase selling pressure and push prices toward the next potential target near $3,920. Traders are therefore watching both economic developments and technical indicators closely to assess the next direction for gold.

Overall, the gold market remains caught between two opposing forces. Geopolitical uncertainty continues to strengthen demand for safe-haven investments, while rising energy prices and expectations of tighter US monetary policy are creating obstacles for further gains. The coming weeks are likely to depend on inflation data, central bank decisions and developments in global markets.
