UAE: Ras Al Khaimah to develop 100km of mountain trails for hiking and cycling enthusiasts

Ras Al Khaimah plans to build 100km of scenic mountain trails, promoting hiking, biking, and eco-tourism while enhancing adventure tourism in the emirate.

Over the next five years, master developer Marjan is set to transform Ras Al Khaimah’s rugged mountain terrain by creating 100km of hiking and biking trails, designed to promote active adventure tourism and highlight the emirate’s breathtaking natural beauty.

Located within the northern Hajar Mountains, Jebel Jais stands as the UAE’s tallest peak and will serve as the heart of this ambitious project.

The announcement follows the strategic merger of Marjan and RAK Hospitality Holding (RAKHH), forming a unified entity under the Marjan brand. This integration combines expertise in real estate development, hospitality management, and lifestyle experiences, aiming to attract investment, enhance tourism, and broaden opportunities for residents and businesses alike.

Additionally, the company plans to welcome over 20,000 visitors annually through major cultural and entertainment festivals.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of Marjan, said the merger aligns with the emirate’s long-term vision for sustainable prosperity. He added, “This collaboration will generate high-value employment for Emiratis, strengthen local talent, and position Ras Al Khaimah as a leading hub of innovation and opportunity.”

Al Marjan Island

Marjan is set to lead Ras Al Khaimah’s evolution with forward-looking master plans, enhancing destination development. By harnessing data, innovative design, and advanced technology, Marjan will introduce mixed-use projects seamlessly supported by essential lifestyle facilities, including healthcare, education, and quality-of-life amenities.

Key developments include Al Marjan Island, RAK Central, Marjan Beach, the forthcoming Jebel Jais masterplan, and Wynn Al Marjan Island — a luxury integrated resort that will introduce one of the world’s most renowned hospitality brands to the emirate.

Marjan Beach

Abdulla Al Abdouli, Group CEO of Marjan, stated: “Marjan is committed to driving Ras Al Khaimah’s growth, transforming it into a smart, authentic, and interconnected city of the future — a dynamic destination where individuals, businesses, and communities prosper.”

Following the inauguration of Marjan Beach, the emirate is progressing with infrastructure development across the 85-million-square-foot project. The masterplan will feature 22,000 residential units, 12,000 hotel keys, and support 74,000 residents alongside a workforce of 32,000, while accommodating up to 180,000 visitors annually.

RAK Central 1

The 3-kilometre coastal development will feature 6.5 million square feet of landscaped green areas and be divided into eight distinct neighborhoods.

Aligned with RAK Vision 2030, which aims to welcome 3.5 million visitors yearly, Marjan intends to enhance the emirate’s hospitality offerings and introduce global hotel brands to Ras Al Khaimah.
